I found this very interesting timeline breakdown of African American Music from Indiana.edu

I noticed where it stops at "Hip Hop/Rap." Hmmm

Which reminded me of this timeline I drew up for OPB.

I would like to build off of that, its only a sliver of the big picture...

Golden Era begins at approx 1986, then other official and unofficial eras pop in and out of existence to the point where we are today. I think it would be a very interesting project and collaboration and eventually a good resource for curious Hip Hop heads trying to look at the history of Hip Hop on a visual timeline.

Will you guys help me get the eras and dates correct? Don't just spout out dates, offer watershed marks (relevant songs, relevant events) to support your dates. Offer cross links to similar online projects if possible. Everyone should have a similar opinion on which dates are the proper era cut off points, the more collaboration, the more relevant this can become. Disagreements and discussions expected.

Who's got a general era layout we can start with? Holler.
