^Great stuff G. thumbs up
I was about to bust out some Sparky D last night, that reminds me to do that tonite.

Recently...

Grits – Mental Releases LP (Gotee Records, Inc) 1995

^With a name like the Grits, and knowing that they are from TN, I assumed they’d be a grittier Southern style not the laid back mellow niceness before me. This is one of those odd random rap records that got slept on for whatever reason that has a few 9s and 10s every other track. It’s not a solid album, cuz every other song isn’t that great. For example, they just had to do the bad slow\love jam rap that always seems to ruin the upbeat flow of early rap albums. But for the songs that rock it makes this well worth seeking. Lots of great, almost Tribe-like vibes on this.

Various - We Got A Lot (CM Records) 1993

^Speaking of random rap, I busted this comp out again for the 11th time. It’s one of those covers that makes it look like it’s 10 years older than it actually is. Black and white, cheap graphics = pure throwback niceness. Now this is some golden age styled beats.

I’ll drop a little PSA for the collectors, here it is and it is WAY WAY nicely priced. I spent 60 bucks on this years ago. I thought that was a good deal at 60 because it’s gone as high as 100$ to serious rap collectors. This is the best price for a Near Mint copy I’ve ever seen. Not surprisingly, it’s at Dustygroove right HERE. That's 20 dollars less than what I paid, so I hope one of you guys gets this.

TEACHERS check it.

Tuff Crew – Phanjam LP (Traffic Entertainment Group) 2005 Reissue of 1987 OG

^You could file this under electro just as easily, while there is plenty of rap on this it’s laced with electro beats. Lots of great production on this from Ced Gee and Kool Kieth. They make fantastic use of Kraftwerk beats on this.

...Also found a copy of The Playgirls - Gangsta Bitch/Never ran never will/Equal to none 12". This is the last record Sparky D did that I know of (1993).

^That reminded me to bust this out last night...

Sparky-D - This is Sparky-D's World LP (B-Boy Records) 1988

^I don't know if I got a shady press of this or what but the first 4 songs on side one sound like absolute ass. I had to put in on both decks to make sure there wasn't something wrong with my needle. Turns out theres no bass and it's tinny sounding. I hate having to tuch my EQ, I never do to hear the true sound of the record, but this one is so bad I have to crank the bass and it still sounds like dung beatles galloping. Then for some reason it starts sounding ok on the B-side. Besides all that it's loaded with dope tracks. She really was a great rapper, I got a lot of respect for Sparky-D but be wary of this probably unofficial release.

Gangstarr - Daily Operation LP (Chrysalis) 1992

^((chiefing)).

Hven't played mine in a while but iirc mine is the same way plus the cd was also probably the worsed pressed cd I've ever heard. I remeber thinking the a-side of the album hade a couple of nice joints but the b-side had some real wack ones.

Moving on I played two random nice old school 12"s

Rhythm Makers LTD - Pary Rap

Zoot II - Dr Ice Rap

Now I'm in the process of going through my collection to see what I can sell to make more room. Some records I haven't listened to in ages and I'm not sure I need to keep them on my shelves. I start off with a couple of lp's I should know better than I actully do.

First up to bat is:

Wow, this sounds more dated than I remeber. One or two ok joints but the rest are only listenable because it's Moe Dee. I will not be keeping this one.

Second up is:

Better than I remembered, a solid effort from Ice, I will be keeping it.

Last one for the day:

Average lp that has it's moments. Can't quite make up my mind on this one. If it was new to me and I listened to it at the store, I probably wouldn't buy it, but since I already have it, I might as well keep it.

^Good stuff.

^^I really like that Donald D. Not for the overall album, but for the strong tracks it makes it worth having.

Right now...

Capital Tax ‎– The Swoll Package LP (MCA Records) 1993

^I had to put the breaks on this to drop a "right now". This has grown on me a lot. I paid a few bucks for it and it's at the top of my "return to" Hip Hop records. 93 was a very good year for Hip Hop. So much so that albums like this got slept on. I'm not snoozing any more and if you don't know, seek it. PSA, not spam, but spame for my mane, Wade at Metrowax has 2 copies under 10 bucks and that's where I got mine. If you can find a better price elsewhere, by all means go for it but definitely look for this LP if you don't already know.
