The 2 Live Crew - Is What We Are LP (Luke Skyywalker) 1986
^The only 2 Live Crew album I have and will ever get. They just ain't really my thing. But this is undeniably cool for the B side's Miami bass style DJ-cut tracks. I could care less about the track I was forced to play a million times at the club "We want some Pussy". The last track IMO is top notch cutting by the slept on DJ Mr. Mixx.
The Cool Kids - The Bake Sale LP (Chocolate Industries) 2009
^When I got this back in 2009 I was digging it. Now I think it sounds overly simple and fairly outdated. I don't know why I got this, it's just not really that good of Chicago Hip Hop, there are so many better Chicago Hip Hop groups than these dudes.
Showbiz & AG - Show & Prove EP (DITC Records) 2004
^These guys are basically as good as Hip Hop gets IMO. So I gotta get everything on vinyl. This one has a monster first track and the rest of the tracks are so-so. Not nearly as dope as they can be, but still worth it for the one great track.
Beat Konducta - In India LP (Stones Throw) 2007
^At one point I had all these on wax. Then I just gave up on Madlib cuz he dropped way too much way too often and it was killing my wallet. Plus, his quality suffered due to overproduction of releases. Now I'll check for his stuff occasionally, but there's no way I'll ever go back to being a Madlib completionist ever again. This one is really cool though, my only complaint is that it's too short.
Ra the Rugged Man - Legendary Classics Volume 1 LP (Green Streets Entertainment) 2010
^Easily one of my favorite solo MCs, I busted this out again this week and as usual enjoyed the hell out of it. Every single track is a certified stormer. His lyrical plays are unforgivably rancid, and I love him for it.
Cut Chemist and Nu-Mark - Live at the Variety Arts Center, 1997 LP (Not on Label) 2002
^One of the first records I ever got I think. These kind of mixes aren't really made for records, but it works out ok on this. Man these guys were so unstoppable back in the early aughties, just absolutely on point with scratching and mixing on this. This one easily is along the same caliber as their Future Primitive releases and BrainFreeze related mixes. Truly flawless and still awe inspiring for me personally.
Cutmaster - Back Bone Breaker 12" (Don't Sleep Records) 1994
^You are looking at the most expensive record in my collection. I paid $200 for it, 100 in store credit that I worked off at metrowax and 100 in cash.
YES, It is THAT DOPE. It is a 200 dollar 12" kind of dope. I think I got it for a steal of a deal since it goes for $300 normally. It's super rare, both sides are 10/10, he brings the rawest gritty rhymes, and the slicing snares boom bap style and the beats in general are perfect. Seriously, I love this so much I almost can't bring myself to dropping a needle on it. I act like I am holding a Ming dynasty vase when I'm putting a needle on this. If you ever see this for a dollar, like the price tag on it says, buy it! Not that you would sell it if you did find it, but if you did, you'd be able to make $199 easily if you flipped it.
