After the success of the BEAT DIGGIN' DVD I've started working on a new hiphop docu: HIPHOP ON WAX, about the first rap records and the old school legends who made them.
HIPHOP ON WAX - A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE EARLIEST RAP RECORDS (A crowd-funded work in progress)
The film explores how pioneering rappers first started working together with studio musicians and producers to create the first rap records. We wish to hear key players like Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five, Treacherous Three and Enjoy and Sugarhill producers and band members tell about bridging the street and the studio, turning park jams into hit records and making Hiphop classics. The documentary will consist of interviews, location tours and possibly performances and archive footage.
We plan to start filming in May 2013 and present the finished film in early 2014. When finished the documentary will be released on DVD and submitted to selected festivals, art cinemas and TV channels. We have confirmation from several key players on the Enjoy and Sugarhill labels plus a professional videographer ready to film the whole project. The film has already been mentioned on Danish national radio and the Dutch site houseofhiphop.nl.
