Cash Money Brothas - Volume 3 (wit da TRUNK of FUNK)

This one's...

  • About 20 years old therefore no Serato, Torq, Stanton Scratch or any other mixing software was used. Long before mp3s and CD-Rs... A mixtape was on tape.
  • As underground as it gets, few people heard of these (retired?) Chicago DJs (In the mainstream circles especially).
  • Recorded to wav straight from the cassette then ripped to mp3 for your listening pleasure.
  • The TIGHTEST blends and mixing I have ever heard
  • LOADED with Golden Age\Mid School Classics and a few rarities
  • NOT inundated with overzealous scratching or endless juggling or DJ shot outs
  • Feel good Hip Hop from days gone by that conjures memories of High School (High School for me anyway)
  • Too good to hoard, Heads REALLY need to hear this

I could conjure up a partial tracklisting but with some help from yall I might be able to get em all listed.

I know nowadays it's a lot to ask to get people to download music (even for free) because there are so many aspiring DJs flooding the world with free mixes. Listeners get disillusioned with it all and end up being very picky and end up downloading very little.

Forget about all that... this is way before that all happened. I started this thread because it's about sharing a great mixtape with real heads that will truly appreciate it and discuss it. I'd bet real money that if you guys download it, you'll find yourself listening to the whole thing, or even burning a CD for your ride because it is that damn fantastic.

Please take my advice, download both sides of the mixtape, and whether you agree with me or not, please comment on it.

REAL TALK:

Nothing is more disappointing (and frankly a sign of the times) then when tons of people download a file you share and no one takes 30 seconds to say jack about it. Instead, they spread it around to other forums or blog about it and it gets the same silent treatment there as well until it disappears into obscurity. Or even worse, no one even bothers downloading it and it becomes a big waste of time. Even the artists themselves say the music industry is so over-saturated that you can't even GIVE music away anymore, much less sell it. It cheapens the whole thing, and soon no one wants to share or discuss mixes or music at all.

I never made this mix, I'm not selling it, I'm not getting paid to "be their intern" and spam about it, and the DJs that dropped it 19 years ago ain't getting paid either. I'm dropping this on here because I think it genuinely needs to be heard and discussed. Cash Money Brothas deserve the props.

This is a great Summer mixtape and it's just in time for the start of Summer, so enjoy it. Nuff Said...

So...

...Let's discuss..

Anyone got a start on the tracklisting?

EDIT UPDATED 7-3-2017:

^Instant Download for the summertime ride, you're welcome!

Download both sides of the tape HERE.

This is the best Golden Age Hip Hop mixtape I have ever heard. Flawless mixing, strong track selection, a few well known classics, a few underground tracks, all coasts represented. Listen to it multiple times and you'll catch the subtle parts of the mix. CMB is dope. I had the pleasure of hearing this mixtape when it was first dropped in the Chicagoland area in 1992 - and at that time - the tracks in here were VERY strong and this mixtape always impressed anyone that I played it for. Now, I must admit, a few of these tracks played out now (like Humpty Dance), but still dope in the way they are used in this mix. Even when CMB used the more popular / played out tracks, they spiked them with samples and scratches, or played a backbeat underneath the track with proper and tight beat matching. If anyone has a better Golden Age Hip Hop mixtape, I'd like to hear it. And as rchecka said, it was NOT done with any serato or computer software. It sounds so much more real as a result. I rate it a 9/10, with a 10 being basically impossible to get.

^I agree with all that, except for one thing. The classic tracks on this mix are not played out any more, they were played out years ago, but a lot of them I forgot about until I heard this yesterday.

But like you said, they used the classic tracks very sparingly and enhanced them with other instrumentals.

I'm gonna agree on the 9/10 rating too, after all, how do you give a 10 rating to anything?

Just added a poll to the topic.

Holler if you voted and why you ranked it that way.
