Played the CD in the car the other day, not having listened to it in awhile. It does sound great. Unless multiple people can confirm that it blows the CD out of the water, I really don't think I need this. Too much stuff on the wantlist to be buying stuff I already own over and over again.

Came in the mail yesterday . The packaging is nice and the clear vinyl was also a nice touch . Now for the million dollar question .. How is the sound quality ?? Not great . LionsMouth made the right call . This pressing is missing all the deep ,rich tones that I buy vinyl for . It took some serious level adjustment to get decent bass and mid tones . At first I thought maybe it was a mental thing since I was worried the quality may be off , so I gave it another listen this morning and even compared it to some other joints from the same era. Like I said before , with some serious adjustment , it can sound okay , but it sounds better on my ipod , which is a rip from an overplayed cd that I've owned since '96 . Rchecka , you may want to just keep an eye out for the rare dirty version , and just drop the dough on it if you find it .

Ah that's a shame. Too bad they dropped such a half ass pressing, I definitely don't want that now. Thanks for being honest about that, I'm sure you are right.

Buying the rare dirty version of this is a hella hard thing to do, I think the last time it went, it sold for over 100 bucks on Ebay.

Seriously, it's a damn shame they can't put the effort in this. If you are going to take the time to reissue a classic record, fucking put in the time and energy to get the shit right.

I mean, come on...

What would Mike Holmes say?

Really too bad. I'm guessing the problem lies somewhere in the mastering stage. AFAIK some extreme low and high end has to be cut for vinyl mastering due to the physical limitations of the format. If they went for with the bass, it might make the needle jump for folks that are using cheapo turntables. Sounds like they went for the safe route, which is not exactly what you want for this sort of music. If it really is lacking in bass, that's a damn shame. You've got the younger generation of kids that are "too cool for CDs" and probably haven't heard the album how it's supposed to sound (just over streaming and youtube or whatever) and they aren't going to hear it right with this version either.

Unfortunately, if this sells with few complaints, it just perpetuates the cycle of half-assed hip-hop reissues. My guess is it will take time before this sort of music gets the type of respect where high quality, properly mastered reissues become more of thing because people are demanding it.
