KNX - Anthology cassette (Leaving Records ) 2013

^It's been a minute since I bought a double cassette album. Upon first listen this is a hard pill to swallow. Abstract but advanced Hip Hop beats I slept on from just yesteryear with a smattering of "WTF is going on here with this shit?" type production. And it's a double cassette so this is the perfect tape to get next level marathon blunted and try to figure it all out.

MarQ Spekt - The Grilchy Era Cassette (HiPNOTT Records) 2015

^Low budget high quality rap tape from 2015. I don't know if it's only my copy or if they are all like this but it sounds a little muddy on the first few songs. The audio quality overall seems a bit homemade but frankly I don't care, because like a lot of great Hip Hop or punk or whatever, the music when it's this good and this raw sounding you put on automatic ear blinders and tune into the content. The sound quality fixes itself by the time the tape really kicks off so it's almost not worth mentioning but for some purist audiophiles that might bug you a bit.

If I had to rate the thing overall I'd give it a solid 7.5 which in my book is pretty great especially for a fairly deep underground cassette only release. It's unpolished, not mastered by engineers, so this tape is low budget and it has a lot of small quirky errors but it's got so much character. So many impressive moments, I'd say it's easily the best 2015 HH tape I own.

Heads up for those on the lookout, it's limited to 100 but as of right now you can still find this at his Bandcamp page and UGGH.com.

Vingthor the Hurler - Low Budget/LoFi Series Vol 1&2

^This beat tape is why I buy Hip Hop on cassette. Dat bass. Hip Hop's low end on cassette sounds like no other format. Despite it's flaws (all media has flaws) there is a distinct bass sound that makes tapes stand out from the rest. This lofi beats only series are raw, unapologetic with recognizable samples, and therefore highly limited, real, and next level. I've been following Vingthor for a minute and it's cool to see a jump up in quality like this.

For HH tape heads, this should be on your hit list. You can buy directly from his bandcamp page, UGHH and a few other reputable online sellers.

Ghetto Boys ‎– Grip It! On That Other Level Cassette (Rap-A-Lot) 1989

^For those who don't know this first run rare OG tape has some of original Ready Red beats he made, including the pulled sample from Steve Miller Band on Gangster Of Love and it includes his early untouched versions of Do it Like a G.O and Fuck Em. I scored big time by finding this cheap and as advertised in great shape.
