First hip hop album I've listened to in a few months. Just haven't been in the mood for hip hop lately. That said, we all know this is classic stuff, possibly my favorite Gang Starr album as well.

The UN - UN Or U Out 2xLP



Played this last night. Need to give this album some more listens, but I dug it. I find it somewhat disingenuous that only 3 or so tracks on it were actually produced by Pete Rock, yet all the sales/marketing/hype info on this album seems to play up the Rock connection more than anything else. The tracks done by other producers are generally pretty good anyway, so I'm not sure that whole thing is really necessary. Overall this reminds me of a slightly more thugged-out version of a mid-90s boom bap album, which is fine by me.

Tewz - Helix ep pic disc .
I struggled with where to drop this on the forum . Is it hip hop , electronic , insert any other applicable genre . I went with hip hop , although this could fall into several genres . That being said , if this is , it comes from the most outer reaching areas of hip hop . Very drum heavy at points so the break heads would dig it , but it has a very cosmic spacey feel that almost never rears its head in hip hop . But still at times has a downtempo electronic feeling . With a nice scratchy popping an clicking sound that used to be heard a lot in olden days from sampling beat up joints . I really dig this one ..

The D.O.C. - No One Can Do It Better LP



Late 80s classic here. This has been reissued recently but this is an 80s pressing I picked up for a good price. Sound quality is quite good despite being a bit longer than is optimal for a single LP. Great album. One interesting thing is that according to the back cover it was mastered at Bernie Grundman's mastering studio.
