You know what it was Joe? I found out what rap was in 1989. My mom came back from Germany without my dad. We moved to Section 8 housing and I will never forget this. Some dudes has a boom box out late at the bball courts. And Me So Horny blasted out of the speakers. I was 12 like.... "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT BEAUTIFUL BEAT?!?!" I learned what BASS was. From then on, rap captivated me... RUN DMC, Public Enemy, Tragedy Khadafi, shit, those old Thump Records compilation tapes.... I was in love. Oh my God, Slick Rick!! Noone will ever rap to me like MC Ricky D.

It's funny, my peers kept moving on to the newer sounds, Dre, Nas, Snoop, Outlast, Katz (although to this day I hate JayZ... Not sure why) but I kept fucking with that old shit. Yeah I liked all the new stuff too, but I needed that unadulterated old school too.

Respect to John G. And his OSHH forums to keep that alive when I finally got on the internet. I learned so much from his Live365 channel. Stuff i had never heard. Dana Dane, Cold Crush, I never knew, but John G. hooked me up!

^Good words Isaac! it's always great to hear people's personal introductions to Hip Hop, I knew you were an old school head but never the personal connection.

My first personal connection with Hip Hop ever was the first time I heard Rappers Delight on my old Sesame Street record player when I was a little kid. I heard Good Times by Chic before and I instantly knew it was something special when suddenly someone came in rapping over that beat. That same Summer day I was blown away by Grand Master Flash on the Wheels of Steel. These were my big sister's records and that was the day I decided she was cool. I also found her copy of Breakdance the K-Tel compilation and was immediately hooked from then on. I can't remember how old I was, but I know I was in grade school, I know it was Summertime, and I remember everything about that moment like it was yesterday because it grabbed me and pulled me in, just like your moment did to you.

Welcome aboard Izack !! That Dark Skinned Assasin joint is dope !! Glad to see another hip hop head around here . Can't wait to see what else you have to offer . I've said this on here recently , but I feel like hip hop has been put on the back burner for me lately . It's not that I've quit listening to hip hop , I just don't dig for it near as much as I am finding myself hunting down records from other genres . Although that's not a bad thing , I'm missing a steady flow of hip hop in my day to day life . I listen to it at work all day , but it's the same old stuff . I need some different old stuff or new if it's on point . Either way , stick around and build with us .
