Quote
Bill Evans
Jazz is a mental attitude rather than a style. It uses a certain process of the mind expressed spontaneously through some musical instrument. I’m concerned with retaining that process.

Jazz heads might dig this...((blax)) ...you don't find their philosophies interesting?

Quote
Duke Ellington
Music, of course, is what I hear and something that I more or less live by. It’s not an occupation or profession, it’s a compulsion.

Nothing like a good quoteable from a guy who genuinely lived and died for music.

Quotes from jazz artists aren't as notable or prevalent like other folks - I.e., other genre artists, book writers/authors, political folks, activists, sports entertainers, etc....

I think the lack or input in this thread is a very immediate indication proving that.

^Errrr, ok then, you are entitled to your opinion. But I'm gonna go ahead and say that's a rigid, all-encompassing assessment of what is "notable" to you. I found it notable, and so did the boys over at music-selections when they wrote that post. Philosophies on music are no less valid or interesting with Jazzmen vs other types of musicians. I'd be just as interested to read Bob Marley's quotes on the importance of music as I would John Coletrane's.

I don't think that's an indicator, it's been dead in here on all kinds of decent threads. I don't respond on a lot of threads that I read, sometimes I don't have time, or I don't think I can add anything to it. I noticed people ain't talking right now period except on the usual threads. ((nocomment)) Lots of lurchers right now.((Spy))
