Deviated Instinct - Welcome to the Orgy

Heavy 80s crust, faster tempos than you'd expect. Not my favorite band of the genre, but I enjoy this when I'm in the right mood. This CD compiles the band's first 7'' and 2 original LPs, basically all their essential stuff unless you're interested in demos or latter day reformation recordings. Kinda funny to think that Peaceville was originally known for putting out stuff like this instead of bigger name metal acts.

Extinction of Mankind - Baptised in Shit

Brutally heavy crust, never issued on CD unfortunately. After this album, the band went through some lineup changes and eventually came up with a more polished sound. This LP is very raw though, definitely in the vein of Amebix and late-period Antisect if that's your thing. One thing: don't judge this LP by any rip floating around online. They all sound AWFUL and don't reflect the real sound of the LP.

That said, I'm posting the video anyway for anyone that's curious. Just take it as something like a 3rd or 4th gen cassette dub and not what the actual LP sounds like.

Slang - Devastation in the Void CD

Japanese HC band here, one of the best in recent years. Started off as a more NYHC influenced group and gradually morphed into something else. The three LPs before this one are all highly recommended if you like this type of music.

The problem with this album is that the band set such a high standard with the three previous LPs that they have a hard time matching them on this one. I was really excited to get this awhile back, but was instantly disappointed and filed it away. Part of the problem is the HORRENDOUS compressed loudness war mastering job on the CD. Typically their albums have followed a pattern where they get issued on CD in Japan and then on vinyl by a U.S. label. Well, there is no U.S. vinyl release yet, hopefully if there is one it won't be overcooked like the CD.

Anyway, after putting this on the other day for the first time in months, I can say I do like it. If it was mastered more conservatively I would like it more, but I still wouldn't like it as much as the prior three LPs. For someone that has not heard those, you may find this to be pretty killer if you can ignore the bad mastering.
