^^HAHAHA! This is SO true.

...speaking of stupid ass shit said at record stores...

I was at my local shop yesterday and I swear to God this was the conversation between some chick who just walked in and the store owner.

Quote

"Oooh, cool records, I remember loving these!" - Daphne Dimwit chick

(inaudible sigh) - Owner of store

"Hey, I'm just curious... I don't really want any of the records you have here but can you special order something for me?"

"Umm, maybe, it depends what it is. What it it?"

"Fleetwood Mac - Rumors. I'll bet that's kinda hard to find though..."

"Umm, no actually it's not hard to find at all. In fact, I think I've sold more copies of that record than any other record since I started up the store. If you hang on a second, I might have a copy in the back."

"REALLY!?? That surprises me, I mean, I LOVE that album, but I didn't know that other people liked it too!"

"Yeah, pretty much every single person who had a record player in the 70s had that record, it's very popular still today."

"Wow, I never knew that. Like as popular as the Beatles records?"Kay?!?

"Yeah, probably even moreso than the Beatles albums nowadays. That and Michael Jackson's Thriller are massive sellers here. So I'll go in the back and check for you."

"Well actually, I don't really need that album right now. I don't have a record player but I was thinking it might look good on my wall."

(the owner then gives her the blankest stare I've ever seen for what seemed an eternity.)

"Well, we do have record frames for walls if you are interested that might look very nice on your wall."

"Oh, wow, cool! Thanks, but not today. I was just wondering if you could special order that for me in the future, right now I don't have any money."

scared nervous

Personally I don't know how he could handle that kind of shit on a daily basis with so much tact. Every record snob (that'd be me too) in the place was smiling and snickering with every word that came out of her mouth and he handled the situation with a big friendly smile and she left just as clueless as she came in. But she might come back because he handled it way better than I would have or anyone of his other employees would have. He knows that making money in this business means enduring newb dumbassery from time to time. It takes a special patience to be a record store owner.

EDIT: Here is a great blog post, very relevant to the topic READ HERE This guy is a bit disenfranchised but he's a fantastic writer and I can't hardly blame him since he's speaking from years of experience.
