BL's Concert Reviews 2014

So I haven't been around for a while..thought I should contribute.

One of my new years resolutions was to get my arse out to some concerts this year. I hadn't been to a concert since I moved here(11 years!).
So far it has been great..here's reviews of who I have seen.

Snoop Dogg

This was a last minute deal. A young lady I'd been seeing bought tickets. I've never been the biggest Snoop fan but couldn't say no. The concert was at a small venue and wasn't listed on his main tour. The pessimist in me said "He's not gonna give a fuck about a small concert like this" and had very low expectations. I was also concerned he'd do the Snoop Lion stuff/tunes people barely knew. It wasn't helped by the support acts. This is an example of the support:

We also waited an hour after the last support act for him to finally enter the stage.
It was worth the wait. Snoop smashed it. It was like a party in there..he performed for about 70 minutes and spent about 4 minutes at the most talking to the crowd. Relentless..tune after tune. You seriously forget how many tunes Snoop has been on, let alone his own hits. He just kept coming with more, had the crowd in the palm of his hand. He also did "Jump Around" and danced/got everyone singing to "I Love Rock N Roll".
There wasn't one tune I could think of that he didn't do. Here's the best clip I could find of the concert online.

In short, if you get the chance go see Snoop live. He made a believer out of a partial believer that night. I will go see him again when he returns.

Good stuff Beatlover !! I would see Snoop , although I'm not a huge fan either . But , I would see him nonetheless . I got tickets for Jurrasic 5 with Dilated Peoples , Dj Rhettmatic , and Supernatural next month . I will drop a review after the show . I may also try to see Oddisee this Sunday if I can .

Bottlerock Napa 2014

DAY ONE

Got the opportunity to go to the second year of this festival at the last minute. There wasn't anyone I was really desperate to see on day one but I went along anyway. Couldn't complain with the layout/facilities at this event at all. Being Napa it was filled with local wineries selling their wares and some great food from local restaurants. Plenty of port-a-potties!

TV ON THE RADIO
Bland as fuck..both the band and the singer. We weren't the only ones who felt that way as some of the crowd left after about 3/4 tracks of boredom.

MAYER HAWTHORNE
Hadn't heard anything of him since "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out" but we decided to check him out anyway. Super impressed with his performance. The band were tight too. From the crowd reaction, I'd say they gained more fans that evening. Couldn't wait any longer to take a piss and missed their cover of Bell Biv Devoe's Poison. Gutted.

THE CURE
The main stage area filled out a lot for these guys. Robert Smith looked like an overweight Avon Cosmetics rep. They were just bad. I lasted three songs before deciding to go. I did get to hear Love Song which is probably my favourite tune of the four tracks I like of theirs. Weak vocals..lame band. If I was a big fan of theirs, I would have been hugely disappointed and would have rather not seen them.

SUBLIME WITH ROME
I had never heard of Sublime before I moved to California. I took this as me maybe being old and too Hip Hop/Funk orientated, but asked my younger sister and she didn't know them either. I heard they were mainly popular in SoCal. I knew a few of their songs, mainly Santeria which gets everyone singing whenever played in bars. They were fucking great. Really enjoyed the energy of the set, which was non-stop. Rome sounded good throughout as they went from Ska to dub and back. He played the shit out of the guitar too. Both Sublime and MH made me glad I went to the first day(plus I scoped out a BBQ spot for the next day - I wasn't going without a smoked turkey leg)

Day Two next...
