^All I need to say is man the Residents are so cool! Little did I know so was the other band on the B-side, Snakefinger. But that's why I buy these comps, to learn. Not to mention there's a track from Yello on here and Fred Frith, <another unknown to me. All crammed on to this little 33 RPM 7" for my sampling pleasure. I bought it for the cover (I wouldn't dare disobey) and I stayed for the music.





^I will be seeking that album. It's just weird enough but not too weird for me.

Greenwood Rhythm Coalition - Salsa Verde / Pachanga Pistola 7" (Names You Can Trust) 2008



^So I'm playing some of my latin 7" records right now, and I stumbled on this dope modern Latin\Funk-Soul seven I basically filed away and forgot about. So yeah, I'm listening to all this Latin stuff at 45, and I find this one, drop a needle and really I'm feeling it. Both sides have a really great modern beats. If I could Zoomba like my wife can I'd be burning serious calories.

Anyways, (excursion) on a whim I bought a new android phone and haven't really fucked around with the "Ok Google" function too much, but I figured I'd throw a curve ball at my phone to see if I could trick Google. Now, I am a professional nerd, so I have learned you cannot fuck with Google, it is omnipotent, but I threw the pitch anyway.

So I hit the "Ok Google" button with the thing playing and said "Ok google, name this song." I thought maybe it wouldn't hear me over the music and not understand the question or maybe be unable to process the question or maybe it will not have in it's seemingly never-ending database the wav file of this 7". WRONG.

It comes back with "You are listening to Greenwood Rhythm Coalition" - then it shows a Discogs link and gives me (obviously) a Google Play link where I can buy the mp3.

I'm sure it can't name every single record I play, but come the hell on! That's pretty damn cool. Smart phones are cool and overall, I think technology is pretty cool sometimes.

On the other hand, it's so big brother though. Google knows where I am right now, it can call me on my phone and some day, like Skynet, it will send a drone out to kill me.

I'm not even gonna try to trick it again, but I'm gonna keep bumping the Latin sevens for a while.

^ I wish it worked well enough to tell me what cheesy 70s music they're playing in the supermarket. Every now and then it's "what the hell is that damned song - maybe Google will be able to figure it out". But apparently barely audible music with a background of whining children and fake thunderstorm effects is too much for even Google.

Funny thing about that is, if you used that exact same song cheesy 70s song on a youtube clip you uploaded they'd flag it as 3rd party content so they can advertise on your shit.

I shoulda gotten Google stocks when they went public.
