Sometimes they cram way too many songs onto a single LP. Particularly with old classic rap LPs IMO. Regardess of genre, doing so strips the music it of it's loudness and music depth.

It's nice to see some of the new rap reissues finally addressing the issue, for example there's a nice new 2LP version of Common's classic "Resurrection" for this very reason.

Anyways, have at it...

Which LP's in your humble opinions got short changed by never having a second disc?

Hmmm

The one I am still waiting for is the Afghan Whigs' Gentlemen. There is a recent 3xLP edition that I have, but the 2nd and 3rd 12''s are just bonus tracks from the 2xCD deluxe edition. The actual album was crammed onto 1 LP, which means the sound quality is not optimal. Not that it's unlistenable, or even very bad by today's standards, but the album deserves better. It is simply too long to cram onto 1 LP.

Why has Bob James - One on CTI never gotten the 2LP treatment ever??

For those who don't know this album, I'm linking one track that you've heard a thousand times and didn't realize it was Bob James...

^Nautilus...

Legend has it that one of the reasons that loops sounds so weird in the most sampled part of the song was because the record label forced so much music on that record and they knew there would be distortion on that song. So they made sure the weirdest part of the weirdest song landed exactly where that inner label distortion occurs.

Keep in mind, record labels were learning how to save money by pushing the limit boundaries of cramming music time onto one disc. And this album is a monster of a classic that actually conformed the track listing of their music to coincide with that inner label distortion.

TLDR: Label head says, no Nautilus has to go at the end cuz it's already weird so lets take advantage of that. Not that that was a bad idea, but don't you wanna hear it like the masters were intended? Why isn't this already repressed on 2LP?

Yeah, I know about that record's rep. Some later stuff James did was ultra-cheesy. My mom actually used to listen to tapes of that in the car when I was a little kid.

Re: this record, been looking for it for it for awhile, but every copy I see is trashed.
