Nobody Beats The Beats - The Second Coming 2003 Sonny B Recordings
This isn't actually a band / group , and I don't really want to call it a various artist comp either . It is actually a collective of Danish musicians , DJs , singers and MCs. You can hear so many styles and influences on this cd . You get a little hip hop , jazz , afro beat , soul , electronic , and blues although some of them may just be through samples , they are heavily stamped in the track . I see this cd around now , but at the time of its release , I had to order it from Belgium at around $45 after shipping . But looking back , I don't regret it . It is definitely the most expensive cd I ever bought , but when I think of how much I have listened to and enjoyed it since I bought it ... Definitely worth it !! Most of the vocal tracks are in English which may be a plus for some people too !!

The Cars - MoFi Ultradisc Reissues





Two recent reissues by the famed audiophile label Mobile Fidelity. Both are from the Ultradisc II 24K gold series, remastered from the original source tapes using MoFi's exclusive Gain 2 System.

Let's face it, MoFi is famous for one reason, and that's producing true audiophile quality reissues of classic albums. These two titles from The Cars are phenomenal. I've been a huge fan of this band since they put out their first album back in '78, and I've been listening to these two albums in particular since their original releases in 1979 (Candy-O) and 1981 (Shake It Up). Even after all this time of hearing them, the mastering engineers that worked on these managed to pull out sonic details I've never noticed before. Every note on these is crisp, sounding like the band is in the room with me when I play them. The bass is rich and resonant, which is something that was a little lacking on the original LP releases, although I didn't notice it at all until I got these remasters and compared them.

The packaging is top-notch, also. Nice thick cardboard sleeves in the mini-LP style, rice paper inner sleeves to protect the discs, and detailed booklets for each album along with a ton of information about the mastering process.

MoFi releases can be a little on the pricey side, but worth every penny IMHO. When it comes to audiophile releases, no one does it better.

I've never been a huge Cars fan, but those look really nice. Would you believe that out the thousands of CDs I own, I've never purchased a single MOFI CD? I guess I need to try one at some point. I have a few of their LP releases (newer MOFI, not the old 70s/80s version of the company) and I have not be disappointed with any of those.

Mofi really is the best of the best. I also like their little hinge thingy that lifts and releases the CD as the jewel case is opened.

I don't know if this is true or just rumor, but apparently if you scratch one of these gold discs you can send it to MOFI and they will "sand off" the top layer to reveal a fresh intact under layer which plays just as good. As per the rumor there are many layers so this can be repeated a number of times.

I'll also add that they are basically flawless sounding and I've never heard anything comparable. I have some SACDs that don't even match up to the quality.

United DJs of America DJ Mixes 1-23 CDs (DMC America) 1994-2003



^(Click for big pic) Mixer magazine along with DMC collaborated on this DJ mix series way back in the day. Before I got deep into buying and mixing my own records I figured studying the masters was the best way to learn. This is one of my early CD collector completionist fulfillments. I not only have the entire series 1-23 but I also have a smattering of Mixer Mag side mixes that dropped along the way. Nice snapshots in time of what the early American jet set DJs spun back in the day.
