Shawn Rudiman - Synthesexual CD



A few years ago I made a visit to Submerge (the shop is an appointment only store) and picked this CD up on a whim. That turned out to be good move. Rudiman is a producer whose roots go back to the 80s EBM scene, but this release from 2004 is actually his first solo album of techno music (he had some 12'' EPs before that). He uses a lot of hardware synths, which means the sound palette is old school, but the composition of the tracks themselves feels fresh IMHO. This is not generic retro electro-techno. I keep meaning to check out his subsequent work but just haven't gotten around to it. Anyway, this album is very good.

DJ Bone - Subject Detroit Vol. 3 - 2xCD



A double disc mix set from Detroit's DJ Bone, probably not the most well known DJ from that city outside of his home base and the underground European scene. There are some big names on this mix, but at the time these tracks were all dubplates specifically given to DJ Bone for this mix. He also runs three turntables here and there are no edits or digital enhancements whatsoever. Still on my list of DJs I need to catch live as well.
