Peter Gabriel - Passion (Music for The Last Temptation of Christ) 2xLP

One of my favorite film scores, this is of course the "soundtrack" to the controversial 1988 Martin Scorsese film. Even if you don't like Peter Gabriel's rock/pop music that much, this is worth a shot because it sounds nothing like that. It's basically like "world music" without a lot of the crappy/corny stuff.

^That's interesting. Gabriel is a well rounded producer, but I never would have expected this project.

^I actually found out about this album through a hardcore punk zine during the mid-90s if you can believe that. The singer of a crusty hardcore band mentioned it was one of his favorite CDs. At that time I was branching out into stuff like Dead Can Dance and getting away from just listening to hardcore non-stop so it fit perfectly with my tastes. I'd never heard any of Gabriel's other work at that point other than a couple songs that were radio/MTV/VH1 hits or whatever. It sounds great on vinyl too, though I don't think there is anything wrong with the old CD edition, which you can probably pick up for a couple dollars until you come across a really clean copy of the 2xLP.

Terra Sancta - Aeon CD

Debut full length from cult Australian ambient project. I've got most of this artist's discography and I think this is some of the best work they've done in their catalog. Maybe not the most earth shattering, innovative ambient album out there, but this is very well crafted and enjoyable. If you like ambient music with a lot of lower frequencies, check this out. I think the CD is now sold out from the label but you can stream or purchase the album through Bandcamp.

Hoedh - Hymvs CD

Great ambient album that's dark without being "dark ambient" or resorting to too many cliches. Recorded in 1990 but not released until 1993, this was put out by a sub-label of Dark Vinyl, which some people may know for their releases and reissues if you followed the underground industrial scene during the 90s. Discs like this are tough to describe, but if you like ambient music made with a lot of outboard gear, check this out. The artist behind the album (Thorn Hoedh, now deceased) was primarily known for trance dance music while he was around. Not really my thing but this album is great. Not easy to come by these days, unfortunately but if you look around you can probably find a copy for sale in Europe somewhere. Albums like this are ripe for a deluxe reissue on double or triple LP IMHO.
