Where U.C. do add a little more personality of their own is a greater emphasis on melody and a couple songs that would've fit in with forward looking contemporaries such as Dag Nasty. Although there is a lot of aggression here, it's not unbridled rage like the first two Minor Threat EPs.

^This is some top notch hardcore punk right here! I can definitely see the comparison with a band like Dag Nasty. I never heard the second album, but if they changed that radically, I'm probably better off that way.

I really got into a lot of these bands back then, including Minor Threat. I just did not fit in with the whole Straight Edge scene at all though, what with me being a long-haired acid freak in my younger days.

Exotic Fever Records, 2012

10" EP from this feminist punk band out of Baltimore. I was hesitant about posting this because one of the few things I refuse to ever do is express political opinions on the internet, so I'll just skip the stuff about their social agenda. The music is what matters to me anyway, and in this case it's excellent modern punk.

I do have to say that, like most punk albums I listen to, I prefer their live sound to the records. I've seen them play a few times, and they have that ragged, raw sound that, to my ears, is superior to the more polished vibe I get from an album.

You know, today I listened to a 7'' EP taken from the second album on youtube. It was not as bad as I remembered. The songs themselves were decent, but the bad production (metal guitar tone, gated drums, muddy mix) and the delivery of the vocals (Bon Jovi/hair metal esque) just did not do the songs any favors. I'd imagine they sounded a lot better live at that time than on LP. If they had recorded those songs with better production and delivery, it would've probably been pretty good.

Re: long hair, don't worry, those guys grew their hair out too. The singer, Pat Dubar, eventually ended up in a hippie/alternative/funk/metal band called MindFunk. You may have heard of them...not to my taste at all though.

Not bad at all. I'd imagine they tear shit up live. Nowadays a lot of bands seemed to be going for polished production...probably because it's easier and cheaper to do it that way now with computer recording, and the standards for how a band should sound have changed a lot.

That's too funny! I remember seeing a video or two of theirs back in '91 or '92. I had no idea that was the same dude! I remember thinking they weren't a very good band at all.
