^Honestly I'm not that familiar with Cope's solo work and post-Teardrops projects. I think the only one I've ever heard was "Peggy Suicide" and that didn't leave much of an impression at the time. I need to try his first couple solo LPs at some point. Will look into that as well. Those are some long tracks. I guess I would assume that's jammy psych rock or something?
Yes, definitely got a Krautrock / Psych / Spacey feel to them. Very different to his early solo stuff.
I believe the idea behind the first one was to create music for him and his wife to get busy to!!!
I'm pretty sure I've posted about his band before, as I do own the main album featured here on vinyl as well as this CD. These guys were a UK post-punk group with a sound somewhat similar to early Killing Joke, but more atmospheric and less "in your face".
The CD is interesting for this reason: when it was originally recorded, the band was unhappy with the finished product, so they went back into the studio and re-recorded a few parts and remixed the whole thing. The original mixes were never supposed to go out to the public, but there was a problem during production of the LP and the master tape of the original mixes ended up being used and a big run of records being pressed. The CD has the remixed version of the album that band wanted to be released in the first place.
I believe the LP version I have of this album has those original mixes. Now, eventually the band was able to get the remix version pressed to wax but by the time that happened it was already too late and the whole thing created a press nightmare because people thought they were being conned into buying two different versions of the record.
I can't compare the two different versions back to back because I don't have the LP with me here (it's in storage), but these remixed versions are a bit fuller and less sparse sounding compared to what I remember from the original mix. I like both versions. When I can I want to compare them a bit more directly.
At any rate, this band looks to be geared up for some kind of critical revival. There are three expanded vinyl reissues on the way, and the band's site appears to be more active than before.
Crenshaw's third album. I guess by this time people were probably losing interest in him, but this really is a great album, even if the production is a tad slick at times. Some great songs here, several are little less upbeat than what he had done before. If you like guitar pop in the classic sense give this a shot. You can probably pick up a mint copy for a couple bucks. My copy is a U.S. pressing.
