This Heat - S/T LP

Probably one of the most experimental bands of the post-punk era, really an art rock band leaning towards the true avant garde. This is the recent reissue from Light in the Attic, very well done, up to the high standard they've had as of late. My copy has either a very slight warp or else the edge was trimmed unevenly, but nothing that would effect playback. The sound is very good. I like that the label is up front about what sources were used to cut the LP to the point where it is right on the little OBI strip thing. This isn't an all analogue reissue (very few are these days) but mastered from a hi-rez 24/96 digital copy of the tape.

The Dream Syndicate - Medicine Show LP

"Difficult second album" from this group that was heavily influenced by the Velvets and Lou Reed early on. This album sounds very different from the first LP and people are fairly divided on it, but I'm digging it. It doesn't work all the time (production is odd/slick) but the album has a dark, sort of blues meets Neil Young semi-jamming thing going on that's interesting. You can probably grab this pretty cheap.

Hunters and Collectors - The Jaws of Life LP

Third LP from this Australian band. This comes off as a tougher, less nerdy version of something like early Talking Heads. A couple tracks on the second side slow things down for a more dirgey type sound. Produced by Conny Plank.

Swamp Thing - Learning to Disintegrate LP (Flaming Pie Records) 1985

^Interesting independent Alt rock \ Post Punkish styled (all over the place) rock from Madison Wisconsin from back in 1985 produced by Butch Vig. Starts off very post punk and quickly and drastically changes styles to create a still somehow cohesively cool album. I paid way too much for this because I didn't do the proper research, but whatever, I still like it so it is what it is.

Here's a short, very cool 80s promo on the band.

^Madison is such a cool town. Very liberal, (except for our dumbass governor) so much to do and tons of great underground rock scenes. Some days I wish I lived a little closer to that town.

^Never heard of that band but that looks like an interesting record for sure. It's funny to think that the U.S. was full of these local and regional independent scenes that are still very much unknown to a lot of music fans and record collectors. Gotta love the cheesy 80s video effects in that clip!

College towns can definitely be cool places to hang out, eat at restaurants, shop for records, see bands, etc. I've been to Madison before but I was there for work so I didn't get to check out a lot unfortunately.
