^His first five albums are definite classics in my book. A lot of the stuff he's done is just as much rock 'n roll as it is country. He was never part of the Nashville establishment really, as he started off playing rock and punk type clubs in LA. Those early albums were actually produced by the lead guitarist of his band, not some commercial country guy. This album is a bit different than those early records, but it's damn good. I'm not really buying a ton of music right now, but Amazon had a price drop not too long ago where this was less than $6 so I had to grab it.

Terry Allen - Bottom Of The World

2013 - TLA U.S.
Terry Allen is one of a generation of outsider country artists from Lubbock, Texas. His contemporaries include Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. A sculptor and professor by day (here's an example of one of his commissions), he's a decidedly outside of the mainstream country artist. His 1979 LP Lubbock On Everything is a bona fide masterpiece, and worth seeking out. This recent record can't match that disc, but it's got its share of excellent songs.

^Nice one. I need to get some Terry Allen in my collection. Robert Earl Keen did a good cover of one of his songs on the Bigger Piece of Sky album. I'm a fan of Joe Ely as well.

What kind of a sick son of a bitch shoots a mans dog!((giggle))

Yeah, I like that outsider country. And I also like bastard country too.

Not trying to self promote here, quite the opposite, it's trying to promote the artists on the mix that I dig and I think you guys would dig too, but did you 2 get a chance to peep my country mix Drowning Poets? If not give er a whirl, I think it's some of the best music I've ever compiled.

I wish I had more of that kind of stuff, much of it is not easy to find.

^I downloaded your mix awhile back but haven't had a chance to listen yet. It looks really good.
