Various Artists - Native North America (Vol. 1): Aboriginal Folk, Rock, and Country 1966–1985

Light In The Attic, US - 2014

I love when other music lovers dig out gems like the 34 tracks on this comp. Mostly Canadian First Nations artists, the songs range from traditional to singer-songwriter, psychedelia, folk, and more - a fantastically diverse and beautiful collection. All music that I probably never would have heard without the effort put in by LITA and their collaborators. I'm looking forward to more volumes in the series.

Jonathan Edwards - Honky-Tonk Stardust Cowboy

Atco, US - 1972

Took a flier on this while I was rooting around at Record High on Saturday - never even realized that Edward's first album included "Sunshine (Go Away Today)". Glad I grabbed it - nice, laid back record. Plenty of Bakersfield influence, although a song or two could have been written in Laurel Canyon and there are a couple of sweet folk rockers. Sounds like being lakeside on late summer day in the golden hour. Worth picking up.

John Martyn - Solid Air LP

So here is an early 70s UK folk rock classic that I'm sure many people already know about but a few people here might not have. I will admit that I didn't really like this album when I first heard it a year or two ago. Fast forward to a couple months ago and I'm really digging it, then decided to track it down on LP. Got lucky when a local store ended up getting it in. If you don't have this, check it out. It gets better as the first side progresses.

Foster and Lloyd - Self Titled + Faster & Llouder CD

File under 80s country music that doesn't suck. Foster and Lloyd were a duo of professional songwriters that decided to get their own record deal, had a couple of hits, and disbanded after three albums. I think they did reunite a couple of times, though. Anyway, the sound on these albums (from '87 and '89) is country rock, with a fair amount of jangly powerpop and some rockabilly touches. Basically, if you like what guys like Dwight Yoakam, Marty Stuart, and Rodney Crowell were doing around this time, you will probably like this group too. The first album is the slightly stronger of the two, but both are solid. Funny fact: this CD is a German import from SPV, and all of the other releases I have on this label are heavy metal related.
