Sorry, kind of a huge category here but this cannot be forgotten.

Not that this matters, but on a personal tip, I personally do not like ANY modern country (I'm sure there's examples of good modern country but it's buried in a sea of fake country shit) but old country on the other hand has it's great moments.

I get what you are saying about modern and contemporary country. There are diamonds in the rough and independent acts out there doing great things but you have to dig for them. I was INUNDATED with country radio in the mid/late 80s and very early 90s so I know how bad things can really get. However, even then there were a handful of very traditional, "doing their own thing" kind of artists that had the occasional radio hit. It was the same thing in the 60s and 70s. For every good artist that did music that stood the test of time, you had a dozen schmaltzy type artists churning out stuff that sounds horribly dated today.

It's gonna be Fake Shelton and his bronies , Elvish Swift will make an appearance because there's a red carpet there, and a bunch of guys faking Southern accents will host the rest of the dumpster fire. It's beyond horrendous. It's so far from real country music that it's basically like calling WWF the Olympics. The people running that entire industry seemingly go out of their way to basically quell any good independent real music at all with a bunch of obnoxious posers wearing white cowboy hats.

Real talk. I'm from Wiscompton yo! Where in my hood, there's not too much of a hood but there's plenty of country music on the radio when you walk into every single gas station to buy milk. I got the biggest country gathering in the planet come to my area 2wice every Summer where the town becomes a pissing contest of Jacked up pickup trucks that can roll over my Camry like a speed bump with Confederate Flags painted on their rear windows even though many of them are from the midwest. They got gun racks made out of deer hooves pointed upwards. Now I would have loved to go see Willie Nelson (cuz Willie Nelson fucking rocks) when he came to town, but HELL NO to all that other shit. That is the kind of country music that I find extremely unattractive. And for some reason, those guys that make that shit get all the airtime on Clear Chanel. Those other independent "real" musicians, Diamonds in the rough as you put it, are few and far in between. And I'd love to hear that kind of stuff, but only if I don't have to listen to 20 of the radio tunes to find the one.

I'd personally rather just dig deeper backwards before those people took over the airwaves. Yeah, there is still plenty of horrible corny old country, but I'd still take corny old over corny new country any day, lesser of 2 evils type shit.

Sorry, ranted a bit, but yeah, there's good country too, like any genre music, there's some great stuff.

Dwight Yoakam - Second Hand Heart LP



Now here is a contemporary country release that doesn't suck. Dwight's latest album, heavy on traditional country and rockabilly flavors, even some 60s jingle jangle in there if you listen closely. I've heard some folks complain about the production on this album, i.e. too compressed. I would prefer a little more spaciousness and breathing room, but it's not bad at all. Although I wouldn't say it's his best album, it's very good. The vinyl version is nicely done as well, cut by Chris Bellman and pressed at QRP.
