Raspberries, T-Rex, Roxy Music, Big Star - you get the picture. Here's the first shot:

Flamin' Groovies - Now

1978 - Sire US
Now is split about equally between covers of mostly lesser known British Invasion songs (Paint It Black notwithstanding) and original material. While they can't equal the perfection of "Shake Some Action" - can that be a surprise? - Now is a fun rocker with some classic Groovies tracks:

^Nice. I've been meaning to add some FG to my collection forever, just never got around to it. Good pressings of their stuff seem kinda scare in the wild as well, might just need to find a decent CD reissue when time/money permits.

Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic CD

Anyone that knows me knows I don't follow a whole lot of newer bands (i.e. anything after the 90s), however occasionally someone will recommend something and it will grab me. I found out about this one (from 2003) through the Dag Nasty forum. It's punked-up powerpop done by some young guys and for the most part they get everything right. Good songs, high energy, enough personality not to make it a carbon copy of old stuff as well. Unfortunately the band ended in a tragic van crash that killed most of the members, so they never made a second LP. I have no doubt that these guys eventually would've been huge had they been able to make more records.

Anyway, check them out.

^ I like it - that's some catchy stuff. Definitely a step above most of the pop-punk bullshit that was getting churned out in the late 90's, early 00's. Shame they came to such a tragic end.

^Yeah, I love finding bands like that. Gives me hope for newer music when there is so much garbage to wade through. I always look at year-end lists or play lists from people I respect. This one came up a lot over at the Dag board. Wish I could've seen them live when they were around.
