The Bangles - All Over The Place LP



Very different stylistically from where the band would go after this, it's basically a 60s-styled power pop album. Lots of nice backing harmonies, catchy songs, and if the Rickenbacker on the cover doesn't clue you in to what this will sound like, I don't know what will. You can probably grab this record for next to nothing, and it is definitely worth picking up.

Squeeze - Argybargy LP



Now this is a power pop classic everyone should have in their collection if they don't already. I'm not sure if I like this one or East Side Story more. Both great records.

Hollywood Brats - Hollywood Brats LP (Cherry Red Records) 1980
This one is one of my favorite rock records in my entire rock shelf. In a way this could go under post punk too but like the New York Dolls, their outward persona is glam rockers.

How have I never heard this before? They've got that tired, trashy, post-VU Lou Reed, New York, dirty ashtray, bar-mat shooter sound - I never would have guessed they're a UK band (although Bowie could pin it down that vibe as well as anyone when he wanted to). Is it bad that I love music that makes me feel like I need a shower.

Haha! I hope not because I feel the same way about grimy music. I was listening to Rapedoor last night and my wife was like "what are you listening to!?"

Yeah that Hollywood Brats was one of those lucky finds you find in a spot where it shouldn't be. Someone hid it for themselves for later, my whole philosophy on that is finders keepers, losers weepers. Besides, if you don't have the 20 bones for a record, you better find a better hiding place.
