David Bowie - Blackstar LP

Dunno where to put this, so it gets it's own thread for now. On first listen, I really like this. Definitely harks back to the Eno/Berlin-era days at times but sounds quite different from that at other times and very contemporary, IMHO. The drums on this record are definitely a standout. They kind of remind me of D'n B breakbeats a little bit, although I don't think these are samples, just played by a drummer (could be wrong). The album is dark, but on the whole more accessible than the Blackstar single, while not really being mainstream pop music. There are melodies here but this isn't the sort of thing you hum along to, rock out to, whatever. Going to take more listens to fully absorb.

^I've heard nothing but good words from all reviews on this album. Did you get the LP? I'll bet that set you back a bit.

I did get the LP. Price was a bit higher than I would've liked, but oh well. I figured if I didn't get it now, I would regret it later. Mine is just the regular black edition. If you like Bowie's weirder stuff I think you'd definitely dig it. I'm not that up on a lot of later Bowie stuff (I liked his last album) but I really like this one.

Well I really loved that song you posted, strange video.

That guy will never stop being cool till the day he dies. I think I'm gonna cop the LP too.

@LM . Definitely an interesting listen all around. Upon 1st listen I wasn't in love (still not quite) but there's something about it that I can't shake and I've wanted to go back and listen to it again. Not normal for me. I pretty much make my mind up quickly on a new release. Anyway, still mulling over buying the lp. Does it sound good? The production felt a little bit flat and muddy on Spotify (I know) although the performances are pretty damn good. Your drums mention for example.
