^Interesting combination of players on that LM.

RN

X-Press2 - Late Night Sessions II (Ministry of Sound) 1997

^Revisiting this nice downtempo and deep house music compilation I bought many moons ago for one track and one track only, Marden Hill - Bardot. Some of the other tracks on this are great, most are "ehh" but that song is a solid 9/10 in my personal opinion.

It is such an epic downtempo song with curve ball surprises throughout the song. Pretty hard to explain so I'll let your ears decide for themselves.

I went and injured my back at the gym like a dumbass, worried and I'm fairly immobile as I heal for hopefully not more than a few days. old geezer So this chillout song is my mood lifter. File Under: Unpretentiously great downtempo. Listen to it and you'll know where I'm coming from.

^That Marden Hill track is really nice. I had never heard of this group. Looks like they have a few albums, might have to try to get a couple of them eventually.

Kenny Burrell - Blue Lights Vol. 1 & 2 - 2XCD

Here is a great one. Check the lineup on this:

Bass – Sam Jones
Drums – Art Blakey
Guitar – Kenny Burrell
Piano – Bobby Timmons, Duke Jordan
Tenor Saxophone – Junior Cook, Tina Brooks
Trumpet – Louis Smith

This definitely feels more like a jam session where each instrument has its moment to shine rather than a straight Burrell album. Of course Burrell is great on it too.

^Very cool. I absolutely love that drawing by Andy Warhol.

Echo and the Bunnymen - Porcupine LP

The difficult third LP? I've always felt the production on this album was a bit weird, but it has grown on me over time even though it's not as good as the rest of their early albums. The songs are good though, and this album has some of my favorites from the band. The upbeat tracks seem influenced by funk and disco music a bit, lots of choppy, staccato guitar. On the other hand this might be the most psychedelic of their first four LPs overall. For me, the real gems on the album are the slower, more atmospheric tracks, which don't really kick in until the latter half of the first side. My copy is a first UK pressing on Korova which sounds great.

If you're not familiar with the album, try listening to this video starting at 11:52 or 16:05.
