Blue in Heaven - All the Gods' Men LP

Mid-80s post-punk from Ireland. Released on Island Records and produced by Martin Hannett. Doesn't break any new ground really but they've got a little personality and a good sound. A very overlooked record that you can also pick up cheaply.

Yet another one that escaped my attention before now. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for this. I really dig that song in the video.

I only just found out about this band. Cover caught my eye while digging at a local shop. You can probably find a copy for less than five dollars.

Rodger Coleman & Sam Byrd - Indeterminate
NuVoid Jazz, 2013

This is amazing improvised music made on piano and drums, far more closely related to avant-garde classical than free jazz, but containing elements from across a variety of genres. There's a lot going on here, and it can require multiple listens to grasp the delicate and complex nuances of these pieces. Coleman's piano runs mesh so well with Sam Byrd's drumming and percussion fills that it can be difficult to tell which is leading the other through the labyrinths, or maybe they're both just exploring the spaces afforded by having two seasoned musicians developing simultaneous and contemporaneous flows. Whatever the case, this is worth hearing over and over again.

Definitely some 20th Century Avant Classical vibes going on there. That sounds pretty cool.
