Duke Ellington - Indigos LP



I'm not too well versed in Ellington, but I do appreciate some of his stuff. Picked up this recently, it's a 1958 release made up of slow ballads. For some people this might be a bit too low key and old fashioned, but in the right mood I can dig this. This particularly copy is a reissue Impex Records (a specialty audiophile label) did a few years back, which is very high quality all around. The record was cut by Kevin Gray straight from analog tape and pressed by RTI.

Steve Earle - Transcendental Blues
E-Squared/Artemis Records, 2000



This is one of those albums that came along at just the right moment in my life to make it stick with me forever, and might just be my favorite in Earle's entire catalog. Every single song on this excellent album of outlaw country has held up to almost two decades of repeated listening. That's a rare feat in any genre.

I like Steve Earle but don't know too much about his catalog as a whole. I have a CD of his first album, nothing else. Need to dig deeper into his catalog for sure.

@LionsMouth , that Duke Ellington sounds like some great Sunday morning music !! I don't know a lot of his music either , but probably need to pick up some ....

@Gordon Rekcikssa , I had a boss back when I was painting that played that album everyday . It stayed in my head for a year after I moved away and left that job . Brings back nice memories . Dave was probably the coolest boss I ever had .

The Stark Reality - Discovers Hoagy Carmichael's Music Shop 3lp . Apparently these are remakes of songs from the PBS show Hoagy Carmichael's music shop . I don't know anything about the show or Hoagy Carmichael to be honest . Being a Now and Again reissue , I was definitely curious . Egos has a spidey sense for great records . I read a review that called this a Sesame Street album on acid , and I had to cop it . It's a fairly good description . Fuzzy , Jazzy , and funky . My favorite combos in an album . A solid listen all the way through .
