Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile To The Surface

I've been obsessing over these two albums recently. A Black Mile To The Surface came out yesterday and is the 5th album from indie rock band, Manchester Orchestra. MO has been one of my favorite bands since high school, and I can already tell that this new album is going to be my personal favorites of 2017. The main draw for MO is definitely their talented lead singer, Andy Hull, who uses an emotional delivery to convey his personal, relatable lyrics. A Black Mile To The Surface might be their best album to date. They managed to make a complete album that flows well from song to song while also making every song stand on its own. A few of the standout tracks for me are The Moth and The Wolves.

Camp Cope S/T

Camp Cope's self-titled came out last year, but I discovered it a few weeks ago on Bandcamp. Camp Cope plays some pop punk-tinged indie rock with female vocals (which seems to have been blowing up for the last couple of years in some DIY/indie scenes). My favorite from this album is definitely West Side Story.

@whoisfrank , Manchester Orchestra is a band I am very familiar with as my wife plays them a lot !! That's one of the beauties of my marriage . Although we have completely different tastes in music , we both have what I consider great taste and a mutual respect for each other's tastes in music . She turned me on to this band when the Cope album dropped . They have a different sound which is nice in an era where it's totally acceptable to sound like everybody else . I listened to that Camp Cope album . Not bad . I have always been a sucker for a strong female lead reguardless of genre ..
Sorry I don't have anything to add today . I've been on a road trip with the in laws for the last few days . I let them plug in my phone to use pandora and all of my stations were immediately passed over to create a Beach Boys station . I've never been a huge fan of The Beach Boys , but my father in law loves them and we are on this trip to pay our respect to his brother that passed . So I guess any little joy that he can find is okay by me . There has been a few great soul songs peppered into the mix on that station though .

I'm not terribly familiar with Manchester Orchestra, but I do like what little I have heard from them. I should spend some time digging into their stuff.

Camp Cope is awesome. I really dig the melancholy sound that's unique to Aussie alt-rock.

Psychic Temple - IV
Joyful Noise Recordings, 2017

I got Psychic Temple's new album in the mail today, and enjoyed it so much I actually sat and listened to it three times back to back. Now I'm sitting in my office listening again to the FLAC download. This doesn't fit neatly into any particular genre, though there are some evident influences heard here and there. Beautiful, shimmering, laid back and spaced out. I can't say enough good things about this one.
