^Agreed - I enjoy surprises like that.

Television - Adventure
Elektra - USA, 1978

Marquee Moon's the more influential album, but I really enjoy the laid back, melodic feel of Adventure. I think Carried Away is absolutely lovely and lyrical - it's my favorite track from this album.

A very underrated album IMHO. It's also a lot easier to find good early pressings because the demand isn't anywhere as high as MM.

Radio Birdman - Self-Titled Boxset

One of the cornerstones of Australian punk rock, the box compiles pretty much everything this band recorded in the late 70s prior to their reunion/comeback stuff. If you're not familiar with them, they put a pretty heavy emphasis on the "rock" aspect of punk rock, with influences from the MC5, Stooges, early Blue Oyster Cult, and maybe even a touch of the Doors.

For a band that only recorded two albums and some singles/EPs, it's a lot of material spread across 7 discs + 1 DVD. That said, the nice thing about this set is that you get BOTH versions of each of those two albums, which are a bit different from each other in terms of recording sessions and mixes. Probably overkill for someone just getting into this band, so I'd suggest maybe getting the Citadel reissue of the first album or the "Essential Radio Birdman" comp Sub Pop did a few years ago. If you've already dived into this band a bit, then this set is well worth it. A few gripes: I don't like the digisleeve "pocket" jackets for the discs as they're a PITA to remove and insert. Also, the mastering on a lot of this is a bit hotter than I'd like, but not what I'd call unlistenable.

Gave Radio Birdman a listen today - it's one of those bands that sounds deeply familiar even though I'm sure I've only heard one or two tracks before. Thanks for this post - fun listen!
