The Doors - Backstage And Dangerous: The Private Rehearsal
The Home(r) Entertainment Network, 2002







Bootleg CD of the full rehearsal for a gig The Doors played at The Aquarius Theatre in L.A., recorded on July 22, 1969.
This thing sounds fantastic since it's taken from a pro recording, and has some great performances from the whole band. Morrison was fairly sober for this, and it shows in his vocals.

Interesting cuts included are an instrumental version of "Peace Frog" and an early take on "Cars Hiss By My Window", a song that wouldn't be released until L.A. Woman. This take included portions of what would become "The Changeling" and "Woman Is A Devil." Plus there is a killer run through of "Gloria" that differs from the version later released on Alive, She Cried.

Shelleyan Orphan - Century Flower LP



Late 80s ethereal pop with dual male/female vocals, primarily based on folk music. You may know the female vocalist from This Mortal Coil's "Blood" album. Both this album and their first are quite good and can be picked up at very reasonable prices. I really dig this sort of sound, but it might be too lightweight for some tastes.

Both that one and their first I paid less than $5 for in excellent condition. One was even a promo. U.S. pressings shouldn't be too hard to find.
