Roedelius - Durch Die Wuste Most people have probably heard this guy's work from Cluster/Kluster. If you like those groups, you will like this. Most of it has kind of an odd, semi-creepy vibe, and the LP is pretty much all instrumental, which is fine. If you've never heard Cluster/Kluster, imagine the more experimental tracks from Bowie's Berlin period. I'm sure both Boby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Biosphere - N-Plants I got into Biosphere in the late 90s/early 2000s with albums like Cirque and Substrata. Unfortunately I've not kept up with his work since then, which is a shame, because this album from 2011 is really good. If you don't know Biosphere, think ambient music that is minimalist and lush at the same time, with subtle hints of rhythm here and there. I don't kby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I don't know much about this record or Buddy Terry in general. Got this several months ago. I found another album by him that I bought at random, liked it, then found this a few weeks later while flipping through racks at another store. Parts of it are kinda funky, then it goes into long improve sections. Like a lot of 70s jazz, probably underappreciated somewhat.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
CAD - Tazky Kov Heavy, crusty hardcore from Eastern Europe. They have a newer album out that it also very good but I haven't seen it stateside yet, just on their Bandcamp page.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Seam - The Problem With Me GVSB - Cruise Yourself Played these two CDs the other day, both 90s albums on Touch and Go. One is sort of an American indie rock take on shoegaze, the other is a bass-heavy, somewhat noisy post-hardcore album.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
^I dig some spacey synth. Will keep an eye out for it.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quoterchecka Great stuff man! Keep holdin' it down, it's good info. I just peeped that Targets, that's good shit. That's the kind of punk I look for. ...and that minimal stuff peaked my interest. Those Shuttle358 albums have held up way better than a lot of stuff from the late 90s/early 2000s mining similar territory. If you like Targets, you may like Astaby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Tietchens' first proper "album" from 1980, just before his series of instrumental "electropop" records on Sky. If you like the more electronic side of Krautrock and old 70s/early 80s German synth stuff, check this out. Honestly I think he reached his peak in the 90s with more electro-acoustic sounding stuff, but I like these earlier, more accessible records by him asby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
The first Minutemen LP, really a 45rpm 12'' I guess. Sometimes I like this better than Double Nickels.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Miles Davis - Workin' & Steamin' Even though there is a 70s pic of Miles on the cover, these are 50s recordings from when Miles was putting out records on Prestige. This is a 70s reissue of two of those albums, on thin budget vinyl from the time of the 73-74 Oil Embargo, but they sound pretty great anyway.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Two really lovely ultra-minimal ambient techno/microsound type albums from Shuttle358. Understanding Wildlife Chessa The artist has a new album coming out soon on 12K (first in several years), going to be released on vinyl this time.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Targets - Massenhysterie Mid 80s Deutschpunk with a fair amount of melody, perhaps somewhat similar to the Swedish school of "trallpunk" but a bit different. Although these guys are fairly upbeat, they do remind me a little bit of DC-Revolution Summer type bands such as Dag Nasty. Although the LP is half studio/half live, the live side actually has excellent sound quality, probabby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I will look for that other record at some point. I was listening to Mahavishnu Orchestra last night and just saw that he also played drums on the Inner Mounting Flame.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
One of my favorite early 80s post-punk guitar pop albums. For years, I've had to make do with a CD that was mastered from a needledrop, until I found this sealed LP. Great stuff, very overlooked.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Played this the other day. Evolution of Dub 4xCD Box, Vol.3. These are all albums by the Revolutionaries. Great dub, heavy basslines, but nothing too wild in the way of effects or anything. These boxsets on Greensleeves can be had pretty cheaply, a good way to get more dub into your collection.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
NMA were a little late to the post-punk scene compared to some other bands. They didn't put out their first LP until '84 and it wasn't until the second one that they hit their stride. This album, their third from '86, is generally one of the most critically acclaimed records they've done. I find it hard to describe their sound - it's driving, melodic, angry, andby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
A drummer led jazz fusion record from the 70s. Pretty guitar heavy as well. A good bit of mood and a variety on this one. Probably most famous for the track that Massive Attack sampled on "Safe From Harm". Richard Hell's second LP. I've been looking for this on any format for awhile, and was a bit surprised when I saw this in the racks at a local store. It'by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Been pulling out some jazz lately to decompress from a tough week: Paul Motian Band - Psalm Some very mellow ECM jazz from the early 80s. A lot of folks turn their noses up at this stuff these days, but I dig it. John Coltrane - Stardust OJC pressing of Coltrane on Prestige album. I guess this is/was viewed as a cash-in because he had already left the label by the time it wasby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning Nice double album of melodic modern prog rock with some personality to it. Not much else to say. Still haven't given his recent album a listen yet. For Against - Echelons Now well-known post-punk group from Nebraska. I believe this was originally released in '86, so that might make this the very first post-punk revival band. The soby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Endpoint - Catharsis Early 90s hardcore from Louisville. You can hear traces of Dischord post-hardcore/Revolution Summer type stuff as well as the early stages of 90s "politically aware" hardcore with the chunky riffs and such. I didn't really appreciate them when I was young, but I like them more now. This one and "In a Time of Hate" are usually thought of as theby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quoterchecka ^Curious about that Bastards, Lions Rock, how's that? Pretty awesome. It's early 80s Finnish hardcore punk. I've known about this band for awhile, but my older CD of this album (which is now OOP) is in storage and a few months back I thought I should grab this vinyl reissue while it's still available (it's almost ten years old at this point).
