I like Dilla, but I think his legacy may have been harmed somewhat by all the posthumous releases and folks jumping on the bandwagon. He did do some great work though. I remember listening to "Labcabincalifonia" when it first came out and being pulled in by the beats and production work...of course I had no idea who Dilla was at that point or that he worked on it. Anyone else a fan of this album? I got turned onto it about 5 years ago and wondered why I didn't know about it sooner. Awhile back, a local store had a 2xLP promo copy in stock in excellent condition for cheap. I took it up to the counter and ended up getting it free because I was buying a bunch of other stuff. Put it on, hadn't listened to it in quite some time and remembered how goodby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
Someone mentioned to me that the label involved in this usually just pulls their source from a 16/44 CD master. I don't know if that matters to you, but it's something to consider. I'll probably just pass since I've already got the CD.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Hip Hop
Here is what I know: The Scientist album was originally released on Clocktower in the early 80s. Clocktower went out of business when Brad Osbourne died. His family sold the remants of the label to a Canadian guy that operates "Abraham", a real shady outfit. Some of the Abraham stuff is marketed as "rare unreleased material" or whatever. Some of these albums are very iffy,by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

No problem. I never know how different forums work and I only started posting pics of records and CDs online a few months ago. Before that I would just post text on message boards. I agree that cover rules. If I wasn't able to find clips online, I might have just bought it for the cover alone.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Yeah, CD sales have really taken a hit. The funny thing is, some indie labels and majors are still doing new CD releases because they know their niche target audience wants them. They do seem to press them in smaller quantities though, and once a desirable titles goes OOP, prices are still apt to shoot up. I have noticed that some dealers of OOP CDs are more likely to take a reasonable offer andby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
A number of the CDs I bought on sale are OOP titles from Blood and Fire. Apparently EB has been clearing these out for a few years since Blood and Fire went out of business, but they won't be around forever, and at least at this point, they are unlikely to be reissued.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I love that Ini Kamoze album. Let me know how the pressing quality is on that one. My copy is a paid FLAC download. Wanted to listen to it in my car and didn't want to take a chance on the LP before knowing what was up with it. I hope it's not a boot or whatever. With a lot of JA music, sometimes it's hard to know. If you've not heard "Statement" by Kamoze, itby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I know very little about Flamenco, but Sabicas and Paco Pena are two artists I really like (older stuff).by LionsMouth - CDC Track ID
Yeah, sample clearance has had an unfortunate damper on hip-hop over the last couple decades. I guess there are guys out there that still make beats using a lot of samples, but can't choose from the wide swath of stuff that they might have gotten away with up to the early/mid 90s.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Hip Hop

Just heard about this recently. The concept for beatmaking on this could be interesting. I'm not really too familiar/into later/more recent De La stuff, but I'd be curious to hear what they come up with once it is done.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Hip Hop

Recently invited here from r/vinyl and thought I would post an introduction here. My story: lifelong music fan but only got back into vinyl about two years ago, have amassed ~500 LPs since then. Like a lot of people over 30, I still listen to CDs and that is the bulk of my music collection - around 4000 albums or so. My tastes are all over the place, I like everything from Beethoven to Sun Ra.by LionsMouth - General Discussion
