^^^ interesting. Would be interested to hear what albums, I know he cranked out a bunch of his own projects but for me it's mostly him as a session player.

^^^ I gotta say (and this is not directed towards you)...I get so annoyed of Hip Hop fans that clamor over a new Jay-Z album like no other good music has been coming out in 2013: "OMG, Jay is about to take it back!" type comments have me annoyed. Folks act like only three albums a year drop talking about Kanye, J. Cole and Jay-Z (or Mac Miller). Nonsense!!!!

Not a grunge rock guy in the least, definitely heard a lot more Pearl Jam than STP from friends though.

They're putting out a ridiculous amount of Lord Finesse stuff, pretty amazing. Truthfully, I'm not 100% into all of it, I love Finesse but it's hard for me to rationalize (continuously) dropping that type of money for rarities and stuff that's already dropped (I'm so far from a Lord Finesse completionist that most of these releases are kind of moot to me). That said, SOS

Cal Tjader first with 14 records (weird and random, kind of embarrassed at a couple of those albums lol).
Probably Donald Byrd next, then Coltrane. A few from Hubbard as well.
The thing I'm always the most amazed at is how many albums Ron Carter played on...holy shit, his bass is alll over my jazz records (even Latin Jazz records like Gato Barbieri). Crazy.

^^ appreciate it. To be honest, that Sun Ra record is a little too out there for me. I have so few of his records that I'm wary of diving too deep (same with James Brown, I almost refuse to start myself with JB vinyl 'cause I know where that will end up), this one was just calling me. Will have to peep Lanquidity, like I said, I'm a total beginner when it comes to Sun Ra (despite h

Great review. Sounds like a good show and you had me chuckling at a few of those comments. Good to see the OG's still doing it.

^^^ nice. And always dope to have them be a surprise AND from the lady! Gonna check out that "Lady" album.
Hit up a shop the other day and walked out empty-handed. I know rchecka would probably be happy but I hate walking into a store full of hardcore and/or punk records, there are a few shops in Philly that are largely irrelevant to me because of this. Not saying not worth a trip,

My biggest gripe with this whole thing is that people are arguing against straw men when complaining about the surveillance.
The way I see it: the fact that the NSA has all this unchecked power—and really, I think a lot of what is coming out in recent weeks is that they truly do have TOO much power—is problematic. We've got FAR too many citizens (ie plain Jane and Joe six-pack) with high-

I haven't had a needle on this since 4/20!
It's interesting thinking about how often we play a single record, I just pulled something out that I haven't listened to in at least a year and was blown away. I'm sure there are certain records in my crates that have been untouched for too long. Anyways, that record looks nice.

Yup, this show is the shit. I'm still getting through the season but got a good three or four hours through on Sunday. Not quite the same but still hilarious and well done I think, sad I'm almost through with it!

^^^ sorry, this is random and mostly unrelated but on the topic of Shyheim: I actually talked to him about a month ago on the phone a few hours after he was let out on bail after getting locked up for some serious possession charges. Seems like he definitely has some potential troubles ahead but noted that there may have been some shady practice on the cop's part. In any case, that's an

Pretty nice, enjoying it.
I forgot about this record until recently, a couple of heaters on it that I've been spinning a lot the last couple days. The accompanying 45 has one of the better tracks as well.

Just out of curiosity rchecka, mainly just because I've heard how much you hate that vinyl subreddit several times now lol, are you posting these up on there?
The same reason I go there is the same reason I visit all the forums I visit. Amongst the kaos and stuff I genuinely can't relate to, there is order, there is real information there. Plus, I me

Revisiting one of the better releases of April in Illogic & Blockhead's album "Capture The Sun." If you like Blockhead's layered production and Illogic's poetic delivery this album is untouchable. So solid all the way through. Heady, heady lyricism that makes you lean in closer. Talked to the guys the other day on the phone for an interview and it was one of the few t

This is one of those records that just makes me happy. I remember having a conversation with the legendary record pusher at Funk-O-Mart here in Philly (he supplied breaks to dudes like Schooly D) about this record and he was trying to sell me a CD-R copy of it. While getting legitimately dirty in his huge space full of records, which unfortunately is no longer there, our conversation sh

I can only speak for myself obviously, but I'm just spread too thin to be much more than an occasional participator. Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing but respect for the grind—providing a grazing pasture for record and music lovers is no doubt compelling—but I'm responsible for a (paid/editorial) role on more than one other site and a mag and for that reason they take prec

Here are my RSD pick-ups (minus one other non-RSD release).
The Roots was what I was really after and was happy to get the Rough Guides To... as well. Like most of those comps, some of the songs are skippers but definitely glad I grabbed both (a couple of bangers on each).
That Hutson record speaks for itself, that was on the wall at my record store and I said "how much?" an

Nice.
I got in and out quickly. Decided to just hit my one favorite spot in the city, record store/coffeeshop called Milkcrate Cafe, about 8 people in line at 8 am. I got there as he opened the doors and was able to very quickly pick the records I wanted from watching a dude flip through crates and pass by the ones I wanted.
Grabbed The Roots, A Rough Guide To Psychedelic Brazil and A Rou

My keyboard is a gadget I take for granted far too much and in the best way possible. Beyond being a very nice keyboard in its own right the wireless and solar charging—actually, not even solar, any light—is awesome.

Just wrote a little blog on the vibes and a few records that feature some dope vibes. These were my choices, it's not a "classic" or "best of vibes" records but more just four random but dope vibes records. ^^^ All of those are fire in my book and range from Latin/acid Jazz (Tjader), Jazz-Funk/Soul (Ayers) to Hard Bop (Hutcherson). Good Vibes!

I'm really curious about this, Calling out Uptown, LES, BM31, hiphopchiq,GMM, Beatlover, Jaybrown, Vamos surely reads other blogs, and others hovering, what's your daily Internet Hip Hop reading?
I only read my own writing/blogs.
In all seriousness though I don't follow blogs the way I used to because sometimes it can tend to be an overload of too much music

I'll be cliche and expected: Fender Rhodes hands down, no question.
It has such a unique but versatile sound that it can be played on every track and not feel played out (as you know some of those keyboard sounds get old after a song or two). The main reason though honestly is that it's a sound I came up on musically, Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder in particular (both of them well
