DJ Jazzy Jeff was one of the first to come to mind for me as well.
My theoretical scenario would require a lot of soul, funk and Latin (for the family)--and deep groove salsa and funky shit not some merengue--with a good measure of Hip Hop thrown in. Kenny Dope would be a great candidate IMO as his versatility is always a treat. Kenny Dope, Rich Medina, ?uestlove would be top picks for me bec

I don't think it's so much a function of renewed animosity towards the US, really that has always been there (in the modern history of the peninsula at least), as much as a new and young (and largely unchecked) leader seeing how far he can push things.
Honestly, another war with North Korea would mean the US squashing it like a fly, IMO it's the initial catalyst--whatever sort o

Props for the words!
rchecka that album has been getting ridiculous spins here, incredible what he did throughout IMO. As mentioned in the interview, I heard the snare drums on "Dark Soul" and almost fell over; knock that track in some nice headphones and it just opens up eyes: "shit sounds CLEAN!"
It was a lot of fun just talking to K-Def, he's clearly very passion

^^ no doubt. Sorry that's such a pain to grab on vinyl, I actually ended up spinning this yesterday afternoon after seeing your post. Great album, I'd love to grab the first record she put out but I got my doubts considering the pricing.

Yo good folks, just did a small interview with the dude K-Def over at a new site I'm writing for. Feel free to peep the interview, let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

^^ saw Saul Williams at an amazing "poetry slam" years ago, one of the better performances I've seen without a doubt.

That's tempting. A good friend of mine just got a new stereo interface in his car and he's been loving the USB connectivity, this would be a good present...

Going back through these pics a second (or third, lol) time now...
What are the blue sleeves you use for some of your 45's?
How did you build in the TIX-dot clock into the shelve itself? Some simple drill holes through the wood but what's the light source?
The diffuser looks really dope! What's the effect you'd say you get from it; less obnoxious/unappealing sound bou

^^ so true. It's interesting, watching these videos (watched a couple of him doing some impressions, his Nat King Cole is great!) there's also the distinct feeling that this is "showbiz" entertainment: he's really carrying a whole show as the lead entertainer...not something that happens much anymore.

^^ exactly. They recently reissued Raekwon's classic "Only Built..." as well (not surprisingly on swanky purple wax) when it was not at all necessary. Obviously this is partly a collector's thing—wanting first pressings and all (not all the time though)—but I would no doubt pay $5-10 extra for an OG over an uncalled for reissue if the decision was so cut and dry (and sometimes

Well I know this isn't a very pop friendly space (not that it's hostile) but this new Justin Timberlake album is nice in my book. It SOUNDS really good, great mixing/mastering/engineering and while there are some very status quo pop formulations throughout there is some very nice laid-back, falsetto R&B to be mined here.

You got me watching old videos of Sammy Davis Jr. now, man what a talent.

Quintessential Damu in my book though he is rhyming on top of this. One of the better beats he put out but this already appeared (in a shorter version) on the Supply For Demand record. Still, this is a longer version, alternate mix, instrumental, etc. I don't have to explain to you about being a completionist lol.

Might well have been a spoof but it certainly rings true nonetheless throughout.

Couple more Damu records to add to my collection (which will be complete—forget the flexis and such though—sometime in 2013 I thinks).
That test press is a real low number pressing of a Damu remix of an O.C. joint, So dope!

Been enjoying it, as I mentioned to you, it's a totally new realm for me musically as I have little experience with this type of stuff...that said, there's so much good stuff on those records and it's always fun figuring out what you really like. I haven't had time to really delve into the

For real! So dope because I know none of these 45's for the most part, makes it a lot of fun just grabbing at random and finding that record's info. in the book.

I used to do a lot of breakdancing when I was younger with a friend, my Dad also used to run a really nice crew in the 80's so he was always pushing me to go harder (cardboard in the basement). I'm sure I could still do some of the stuff I used to be able to but I haven't really done anything serious in nearly a decade. My not so unique signature move (to be busted out at weddings,
