PS. Arrested Development was waaaaay more like Fugees than BEP.

only in socially-conscience message...but otherwise, Arrested Development had that crossover/pop-py sound, and audience - just like with BEP.......

I'd agree in crossover appeal (altho I think Fugees had a lot too) but the music and message were much more similar IMHO. I don't think they had a pop sound. I think it's pretty classic 90s sound (which I love).

One thing tho, that I just thought of is Arrested Dev fits right into my "costume" theory... they all dressed crazy, had an old guy for no apparent reason... so, according to my second theory, the music coulda been anything, but the mass-popularity was fueled by the look and perceived hipness.

If you're going off looks, ATCQ would also fit in that category. I also have to disagree with the BEP thing. The Fugees were popular, cause the Fugees were good. Think of all the other music out at the same time. We could have chosen not to like the Fugees, but they stood out amongst others, and with others. I think the main difference is that the Fugees at least seemed to make music to make music. BEP is a Pop machine.

BEP started pretty legit. That first or second album (?) was decent, not poppy and to some degree fit with other albums af the time. I guess you keep making albums tho and eventually end up selling out--or at least looking like you did. Either that or you tank. I wonder what woulda happened to the Fugees had they put out 5 more albums. Dont think they would have continued on at the same level... They would either have bombed or got more and more poppy I think. Obviously who knows.

EDIT: You know, the other thing is I always considered Fugees pop for the most part. It was pretty good pop, but honestly I don't remember one single straight dood that bumped Fugees solo. The only time the Fugees would come out is when you were wooing a lady. And it'd be right there with the other bitch CDs like Snow, Shaggy and Bone Thugs. Thats kinda the defo of pop to me... bitches like it and you like it by default because you like bitches. I'd much rather be listening to Cypress or Dre or Too $hort tho... but gotta keep the ladies happy. Kay?!? whipped

I dont think afro-centric clothing (with afro-centric beliefs) classify as "costumes"...

I think you're a closet BEP/Fergie fan....((blax))
