Why do you like Rap music?
I like it because I can relate to it. More importantly, it was the mouth piece of this cultural art form called hip hop. It wasn't just about the rap itself, it was about the fact that it represented a lifestyle that I identified with. I still get goosebumps listening to the "wrong side of the tracks" by the artifacts because my friends and I would put up burners with such religious zeal. We were artists in our own right and we didn't need any formal "contemporary" art training to bring any validation to ourselves. But that's just one reason like many of you, I can go on for days.

What used to get you going?
What used to get me going was lyricism and beats just like anyone else. I like the fact that I could listen to an album all the way through, absorb it, put it down, pick it up again, and catch something I didn't the first time around. The radio used to really get me going too . WBLS with Marley and Pete Rock was my ish man. I would record a lot of stuff from the radio. Another thing that used to get me going was Tuesday. All the new stuff would come out on Tuesday for you to pick up...

What still does?
Production more now than anything else. The major heavy hitters are still doing it like Pete Rock. Now you have a new producers that are carrying the torch.

Has your taste in Rap changed over time?
Definitely

If so how?
Im not as closed minded now. I used to be all about rappers who "rapped about rapping"- still am to a certain extent. However, I've learned to actually listen to music, since taking up production. As a result, I've learned to look at albums in their totality , the lyrics, production, sequencing and even the mixing.

I like a certain styles of Rap, and others I can pass on.
Some loved 2Pac more than Biggie (Biggie for me).
What is your thing?

Big definitely. The rhymes where just crazy.....

^I think so. What do you mean, exactly?

There's rap that caters to young kids, there's rap that caters to grown men...

Without naming the obvious "Grown Man" titled Hip Hop tracks, there's a lot of men our age buying Hip Hop that they can relate to but maybe the Freshman in High School will diss it cuz it's not 'their rap".
