RC, my newsflash comment was for anybody and everybody that reads it to understand that just because
you originated something, it does not give you complete ownership. The comment was to imply that the
west coast, the south, the midwest,overseas,etc..ALL made significant contributions to the rap game and it should'nt go unrecognized just because of a persons taste in new,old school or whatever rap anyone listens to.Mel of all people should understand this.Suppose if the west didn't come along with an alternative at that time?Rap could have died just like many other genres that came and went.We will never know if rap based solely in N.Y.
would have been enough for the genre to survive 30 plus years.
The grandma comment was preachy,no disrepect felt,RC because the comment was for effect.
The purpose was to remind everyone to regardless of how something is going down, good or bad.
Maintain enough where with all about yourself to be above the fray.I, like many others in life and online have aimlessly disregarded her sayings and have learned the hard way from it.So the desired effect for the comment was for any and all to read and maybe say to themselves,I don't want to go that route, let me be better.I wish there was people around to tell me such before I put my foot in my mouth or go off the deep end.In tying the comment to Mel,I am saying, do your thing bro,but understand who you are, what you mean to people and rise above the occasion.
I believe that being proud of where you are from is for the kinship and connection to other people past
or present, regardless of age or era.It describes a particular way of life that you had that other people
similarly experienced. In Mel's case, some of his comments were not factually true.My only resoning for this was maybeThe Furious Five were so big at the time that they did not actually hang around after the shows, maybe they didn'tspend alot of time stompin in the hood.Or maybe there were other reasons, but to diss the female rappers and HIM coming from that era and area, I was suprised because he should have known the half and known how much
the lady rappers meant to the game at the time.
haha @ your Grumpy Old Men comment, I actually saw and liked that movie.
For you cats that are in your mid thirties and have not been over the hump yet, let me tell you this.
Getting older, isn't a badge of honor or means that you are anybody special. It is nothing of the sort,it actually is the furthest thing from it. It just means that you have been further down the road than other people.
There are things that are happening down that road that people have not seen yet. Some things are bad and that you can possibly avoid. So like a person working in a travel agency,we just like to tell you some of the places and things in life to avoid, because we didn't and paid the price.I only say some of these types of things because I believe that you are all great people and I would not like you guys to go through some of the hardships and turmoil that people my age has been through if you can avoid it....I care. That was my issue with Mel.....he should care.Bad mouthing people doesn't solve anything. We should help bridge these gaps and create the common ground.
Peace.
