I agree with just about everything said here, but I think you can have a classic right away. Dr. Dre's 2001 comes to mind. You knew the second you heard it, it was gonna last. Biggie's Life After Death is another one of those.

@BM31: I could name off 100 classic rap songs way faster than I could R&B (Unless I just counted Motown).
