For the deep rock diggers...

Rare rock records, multiple sub-genres, from old to new, compiled for this mix.

Tracks are crossed off, but if you guess right I'll fess up.

Enjoy.

For real? If you know this figure it out and let me know what it is because I don't! The source is an unknown, unlabeled acetate from who knows when. There are no markings on the disc. I have Googled every lyric, and I have no CLUE as to who this artist is or what the title is of any of the three songs on that disc. It has no runout groove markings, 3 unmarked songs, and it is a 1 sided acetate. While the song I included was great, it was actually my least favorite track of the 3 unknown songs on that disc. I picked it because it fit better than the other 2 tracks.

If anyone can name this artist and source I would be eternally grateful because I have no idea. As a reference point, the song starts at the 12 min mark. "Back to the Rock" is the assumed title of this song, it could be something totally different for all I know.

A few friends of mine have asked me for a tracklisting for this mix and I never really made a track listing so I didn't have it to give. I figured I'd leave the artists names under the radar once in a while. Sometimes it gets people discussing the music for a change, it prompts questions instead of the typical drive-by download by lurkers.

Regardless, enough time has passed and my punk guy asked me for a tracklisting last night, so instead of simply jotting down the artist info, (what fun is that?) I took pics of the sources.

Back to the Rock

Track Listing:

1. (Intro) Dick Shreve (Just a snippet of first song side A)

^Your welcome for leaving this white sticker where it is, no one wants to see a schlong-out. Goofy-ass song, definitely not safe for work.

2. The Crimson Bridge - Living in the Love of the Lord

^Religious psych?

3. Five By Five - Hang Up

^Tidbit: On the flip of this is a kick ass cover of Jimi Henrix's "Fire" used by Shadow and Cut Chemist on their 45 mixtape Brainfreeze.

4. Elephants Memory - Hot Dog Man

^Not particularly rare but groovy enough and definitely great drug references for the psych stamp.

5. The Utica Club Natural Carbonation Band - Utica Club

^I have no friggen idea where I got this but for a radio ad I'd say it's pretty dope.

6. Unknown Artist - Unknown Song (Song titled possibly "Back to the Rock" ) from an unmarked acetate

^3 songs (all of them great), all unknown, I Googled the lyrics to death and it does not exist anywhere. If anyone knows anything about this please contact me.

7. Roky Erickson - Burn the Flames

^Evil laugh Roky mixed perfectly with the next song...

8. Instructions - Ha Ha Ha

^Strange but great 80s synth all over this.

9. Beast - Possessed

10. Always August - Interrogation

^Jam band Jazz?

11. Dead Steel Mill - Pollution/Get Naked

^Rock On

12. Khonnor - Dusty

^Child prodigy (at the time of this song) writer and producer of some crazy amazing rock.

13. Sugar Plant - Not So Good

^I adore this Japanese dream pop band, I want everything they touched.

14. Can - Millionspiel

^This song is the ONLY good song on that God forsaken Mute RSD from yesteryear.

15. Friends of Dean Martinez - Chunder

^A Sub Pop super slept on nearly perfect album.

16. Nirvana - Untitled (Last "hidden" song in the 4 LP box)

^Kurt's angst to end it all off. IMO, his raspy voice on this perfectly complimented the guitar dissidence on this track.

Thanks to all who have partaken.
