It's been a while since I last vented something on here but now it's definately time.

Last week my workplace was burgled. They stole some laptops and phones, nothing major. I personally couldn't give a damn, I basically wish they had stolen my laptop too so I could get a few hours of payed lazyness in. Anyway, on the morning of day 2 after the burglary I get a phonecall on my work phone from the administrative assistant and the following conversation takes place:

AA: Hi! What time did you leave work yeasterday?
Me: Um, let me check...looks like I checked out at exactly 16:12, why?
AA: Well then it adds up
Me: What adds up?
AA: Well I got a report of a suspicious man leaving the building at about 16:15. He was wearing a hood and looked suspicious, so I thought it had to be you and I guess it was! You know people are a bit on edge after the burglary.
Me: Haha, What????
AA: Ok, that's all, bye!

So now two questions bother me:
1) I've worked at this place for over 4 years now, which is longer than about 60% of everybody there. There's about 150 people employed and I walk through the halls at least 2 times a day, and since I'm one in two males that has a "differet cultural background" (the only one under the age of 60 I might add), you'd remember me if you've seen me. So who in the hell thought I looked suspicious and/or didn't recognize me? I put my hood on as I was exiting the building and there was about 0 degrees celcius outside, suspicious I know.

2) Why did the AA automatically assume it had to be me?

Possible answer 1: Just circumstances, nothing more
Possible answer 2: Y'all know this one...

I know most of you have been through things like this more than once and so have I. Anyway, I choose to look at the situation from the perspective that sometimes it's good to get checked like this so you don't get too comfortable and remember who you really are and where you are.

And now I'm done venting...

^^ I'd rock a ski-mask (into work and leaving from work), one day, just to really put a scare in them...

Don't take that shit GMM, I'd be pissed the hell off.
Look em right in the eyes and say "WTF am I gonna do with a bunch of shitty outdated laptops?"
If they are gonna threaten 4 years of service on a hunch based on your skin color and the relative time you left your shift than I say it's time to clunk some heads together.

^^I didn't get accused of the actual burglary, I just looked suspicious 12 hours after it happened (as if a burglar would stay in a building full of people for a whole work day and the walk out the front door - wtf?). I might do that ski-mask thing though! They always look a bit nervous once my beard starts getting longer. I find it easier to laugh this one off for share stupidity than to get upset. You got to pick your battles. I've been looking for another job on and off for the past 6 months so I'm gonna put my heart into it now after the summer (I just made sure I get a really long leave june through august). Did I mention I work for a governmental agency

GMM, down here in Florida my eyes got opened to a lot of remaining old school wounds.
Up in NY, we had our spots here and there, mainly with the O.
But down here it's the original shit.Confederate flags still don peoples license plates and pick up trucks.
The internet over the last 20 or so and TV over the last 50 made shit more palatable,
but in the realness..we ain't changing some attitudes that have been around for 500 years.
It will take another 500,because by that time we'll all be one color or human kind just won't be around.
There will be segments of the population that all get along like us here that respect one another solely on the contents of our personas and character and there will be segments of the population black and white that just don't get it.
Life is too short .

In the meantime,look for another job my brother..
