Fisher Price Record Players?
November 25, 2012 03:41PM
Hi guys, im new to the forums and crate digging in general. Ive heard good things about those old Fisher Price record players like the 820 and 825 models, however i think they only have an external speaker I was wondering if anyone who owns one or who has used one if they have RCA outs on them? If not how hard is it to mod a headphone jack on one of them? I was looking to purchase a cheap turntable in order to carry around with me when i dig for vinyl and I could use for sampling.

Welcome aboard AstroBlack!

There's a lot of love for Fischer Price record players, mostly due to the throwback to childhood factor though. They get a lot of love from diggers because they fondly remember them as "their first" record players. But truthfully, the needles are often quite harsh on all records. They literally shred records. So you might get a lot of dirty looks from record store owners who watch you drop a needle on their stock, so I wouldn't even try using it as a portable.

There are a lot of good small portable decks designed specifically for sampling records to be purchased, many of them have the connectors you want. Some have USB, built in speakers, RCA outputs and are small and handy. Many of them are under 100 bucks. The good ones are under 200 bucks. I would look into buying a cheap portable before trying to alter a Fischer Price, you'll get a lot more out of a modern portable. Not saying what you are asking couldn't be done, I'm saying it's probably not worth your time trying.

Once again, welcome to CDC! thumbs up

Vamos, and AstroBlack you guys like to tinker with vintage electronics, don't you...

I can definitely respect that nerd.

If you guys find a way to alter an OG kids FP record player, show off the plans or pics,
That's golden.

Never did the fisher price thing, even for my kids when they were younger.
At most of the spots in New York there are already a few stations in the stores with turntables so you can try out your potential cuts.
