Has anyone seen this Documentary? It is really well made. I also think that it has a very important message.

I have the Howlin' Wolf ‎– The Real Folk Blues lp which has killing floor on it. I knew about dazed and confused but was surprised to see some of the other sources that zepplin ripped off.

Here is another good one that is on netflix.

Any other Docs that you guys know of?

I watched the first part before work this morning . Gina's try to watch the rest later . As for Led Zepplin , I always called them the worlds best cover band .. But , in the same breath , I hear rappers recite lines from back in the day , and just consider it to be paying homage . So maybe that's how it all should be looked at. Just make sure to give the credit where it's due .

^ @JayBrown - I fully agree with you.

I think that radio's influence kind of blind sided the cultural norms. Before radio, the best way to listen favorite songs was to hear a live band play them. And that's what all bands did, play the popular songs of the time and mix them in with there own (Elvis, Ray Charles, Billy Holiday). Every trumpet player in the 20's was playing King Oliver licks, even Louis Armstrong. Louie Louie was written by Richard Berry, but the hit version everyone knows is by the Kingsmen. Radio made way for the superstar, and with it greed. Chuck Berry used horn licks and turned them into guitar riffs. But then went on to sue the beach boys and his label ended up suing John Lennon who in turn counter sued. The law suits escalated all the way up to Sample Trolls. Now labels sue people all the time, and the person who originally wrote the song may not even know that any of this is going on. Sample Trolls have made it impossible to give credit to whom it is due.

But the line gets blurred with hip hop. Where do you draw the line between copying and creative extrapolation.

Sorry for the rant.

I personally love the art of sampling . But like I said before , give the credit where it's due . Do t borrow something from another artist and try to pas the full composition off as your own . I think it's the ultimate compliment to take a track that has been completely looked over , and give it a new life because you loved it or seen the potential in it . There is so much music that would have been long forgotten if it wasn't for beat heads diggin for the diamonds in the rough .
