These Animal Men - (Come on Join) The High Society CD I got this CD awhile back but haven't given it enough play time really. Listened to it again last night. This is definitely the sort of UK/Anglo-centric kind of band that would never be able to gain any real popularity in the U.S. The sound is a mixture of power pop, punk, and hyped up glam rock. At times, the whole thing blazes byby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
By the time I got into the band they were long gone. I think Sugar (Bob Mould's post-HD band) might have just been coming to an end and he was doing solo stuff of course. Mould has been through various places I've lived in, but I've never seen him. I've heard that he still puts on a great show. Very different from HD of course. That is definitely an odd bunch you've goby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
^I really need to expand my blues collection. I have maybe 10 blues LPs and maybe another dozen or so blues albums on CD, but that is it.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
^I like all the Huskers stuff from Metal Circus through Warehouse. Some of the earliest hardcore stuff is good too, but I haven't spent a ton of time with it. In general I think there were other bands in the 80s that did the fast/loud/straightforward HC thing better, which is kind of why I think Husker Du moved on from that stuff pretty quickly. I think there are some songs on NDR and Zen Arby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Husker Du - Flip Your Wig CD Not my favorite Huskers album(that would be New Day Rising), but a good one. Hints of the more polished direction they would take over the next couple of albums. Just like everything else they've done, the production is pretty terrible, but worth getting through. One of the best bands to combine punk, hardcore, and indie rock/pop music IMHO. I'm not oby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Chasing Yesterday I really liked Noel's first solo record, but when I first heard this one in a record store, it didn't grab me at all. The production was lot more straightforward and it seemed to be missing some of the texture from the first one when I first heard it. Eventually, I just decided to buy it and figured it might grow on me. Luckby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Entombed - Left Hand Path One of Entombed's best, for me this band is all about the first two albums with Clandestine being my favorite. This one is just as good, but since I heard Clandestine first many years ago this one doesn't get as much play time as it deserves.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
999 - Separates My favorite 999 album, I actually think this is a big improvement on the debut, no matter what anyone else says. Classic punk with a fair dose of glam rock and power pop thrown in the mix. In my book, the first 3 albums by this band are absolutely essential, along with their early singles. After that I lose interest.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I used to have that Scorn remix CD. I agree there are some great tracks on it. The best Scorn album IMHO is the one they did right before that, Evanescence. That is a phenomenal album.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I really haven't followed any of Reznor's stuff since the mid-90s. Listened to Nine Inch Nails a lot when I was younger. I read about this project awhile back but never heard any of it. You may know this, but the band's name was taken from Coil's first 12'' EP.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Spectres - Nothing to Nowhere More retro post-punk, done right though. Listened to this album late last night, definitely fits the late night/early morning mood. A huge improvement on their debut. Listen here:by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Donnacha Costello - Love from Dust Recent album from this Irish electronic artist that's been kicking around since the late 90s. You may know him from the stuff he did on Mille Plateaux years ago or his Colorseries techno 12''s. This album definitely is more on the ambient side, similar to those old Mille CDs but different. There aren't too many artist these days occupyby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Disfear - Everyday Slaughter During the 90s there were a bunch of bands from Scandanavia that took the blueprint of Anti-Cimex (i.e. Discharge-inspired hardcore, but faster and heavier) and made it even more extreme. This was one of those bands, along with other great groups like Wolfpack, Meanwhile, Valvontakomissio, Fleshrevels, Driller Killer, etc. This album has that Sunlight Studiby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

Slang - Devastation in the Void CD Japanese HC band here, one of the best in recent years. Started off as a more NYHC influenced group and gradually morphed into something else. The three LPs before this one are all highly recommended if you like this type of music. The problem with this album is that the band set such a high standard with the three previous LPs that they have a hard tby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Extinction of Mankind - Baptised in Shit Brutally heavy crust, never issued on CD unfortunately. After this album, the band went through some lineup changes and eventually came up with a more polished sound. This LP is very raw though, definitely in the vein of Amebix and late-period Antisect if that's your thing. One thing: don't judge this LP by any rip floating around online.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Hugh Mundell - Mundell Played this in the car again recently. As great as "Africa" is, I think I like this album and "Blackman's Foundation" more.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Deviated Instinct - Welcome to the Orgy Heavy 80s crust, faster tempos than you'd expect. Not my favorite band of the genre, but I enjoy this when I'm in the right mood. This CD compiles the band's first 7'' and 2 original LPs, basically all their essential stuff unless you're interested in demos or latter day reformation recordings. Kinda funny to think that Peacby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I haven't listened to Crass in years. That particular album is probably the musical thing they've done. I tend to view them more as a political protest group than a "band" per se. Quotejaybrown Great album LionsMouth! ! That's more my speed when it comes to punk. Fast and pissed . I have been listening to Crass lately ..by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
The Partisans - Police Story CD Totally different from the last post, this is more young and angry UK '82 style punk rock. For a long time, I didn't think too highly of bands like this but my stance has softened over time. While not my favorite punk record, it is fun to listen to when I'm in the mood. I think Havoc may have reissued this on vinyl BTW, for anyone that'sby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Conflict - The Ungovernable Force CD Conflict's third album and their best in my book. One of the best political punk records ever made, even if I don't play it as much as I did when I was younger. There is a fair amount of musical diversity here, which you probably wouldn't expect from a band like this either.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
The Auteurs - New Wave CD UK rock band with very straightforward arrangements and playing harking back to 60s groups, but over the top they've got sing/speak Lou Reed-esque vocals in a thick accent with sarcastic lyrics. Not the sort of thing that hits you over the head immediately, but when I listened to it today I realized how good it really is.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Devo - Duty Now for the Future - LP Probably Devo's best album, at least out of the first three. I don't think I've heard too much of anything from them after that. This particular copy has the perforated cover that the record company eventually got rid of IIRC. A fun record, even though I don't play it very often.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quoterchecka I was thinking about this, it sounds like you should do a best of mixtape. Sign my ass up if you do this. That is a good idea, unfortunately it likely wouldn't be able to happen for at least two months due to my upcoming move. I have another idea that I'll PM you about.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Chameleons - What Does Anything Mean Basically CD The band's second album and my introduction to them years ago. Compared to the first album, some of these songs have a lighter mood to them, but we're still talking about guitar-driven post-punk here. Lots of digital delay and various effects, supposedly had a big influence on the later shoegazing scene. I do think the productionby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Scanner is one of those artists that totally passed me by for some reason. Pretty much the only stuff I've ever had by him was various remixes here and there, but never any of his albums. The only full album I've heard by him was one a friend lent me (don't remember) many years ago and it didn't leave much of an impression. I'm guessing it wasn't his best work. Cby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I've got almost their entire catalog on CD. The only things I'm missing are some live albums and re-recorded stuff which I'm not too interested in. I need to re-buy the Devoto stuff as well, but everything else I have. The only thing I have on vinyl is Love Bites, found a NM first pressing at a local store a few months back for a reasonable price, rarely see stuff like that where Iby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Buzzocks - Self-Titled - 2003 Album I don't think I have to say too much about this band. At any rate, their later material is very underrated and this probably represents the best of that.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Lush - Split CD Classic shoegaze/dreampop, one of the best bands in the genre IMHO, but never seem to get the respect these days that acts like MBV, Slowdive, Ride, etc. get. This is their second full-length, and probably their best, but I tend to think their early EPs/12"s as collected on "Gala" are my favorites by the group.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
