Japan - Quiet Life LP I've been on a Japan/David Sylvian kick lately, just haven't gotten around to posting this here until now. This was Japan's third LP overall, and a quantum leap forward from the first two where they had a rough-edged glamrock sound. I much prefer their style here where Sylvian uses his crooning voice and the band is more electronic driven...it just seemby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

RIP. Definitely a situation I would not have expected. His band meant a lot to me, especially when I was younger. I remember buying Superunknown on cassette when it came out and I played that to death until the tape wore out.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
QuoteGordon Rekcikssa The Clan Of The Cave Bear Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - Alan Silvestri Varèse Sarabande, 1986 I think I vaguely remember that movie from years ago. The clip you posted does sound pretty good. Not sure I'd want to see the film but I'd buy that soundtrack if I came across it.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
What is pre-emphasis? It was a method of equalizing that was used on some CDs originally manufactured during the 80s. If you play these back on a CD player or computer that does not automatically de-emphasize, they will not sound right. They will be oddly tinny and thin sounding. The purpose of this topic is to help people deal with these discs when ripping or playing them back. I should sayby LionsMouth - Turntable Help and Technical Questions
Definitely not my area of expertise but I can dig this stuff. Of those posted I only have Shaft, and my copy could use an upgrade (a bit beat, crappy pressing).by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
The Armoury Show - Waiting for the Floods LP The sole LP from this 80s group featuring Richard Jobson (Ex-Skids) on vox and John McGeoch (Ex-Magazine, Siouxsie & the Banshees, etc.) on guitar. The sound is very similar to where the Skids left off with their third album, perhaps a bit more atmospheric at times. In general, think post-punk guitar pop "big music". Jan Garbarek - Dis LP I don't know much about Garbarek, but I do have a couple of his records. Garbarek is a sax player from Norway with a huge discography including solo albums and sessions with other musicians as well. Much of his work was released on the ECM label, which has legendary status even if it is not so trendy at the moment. I like this one more than the other Garbarekby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop

QuoteGordon Rekcikssa Darkthrone - Arctic Thunder Peaceville, 2016 - pictured below RSD 2017 Picture Disc pressing I bought this album on CD last year. I like it, but it seemed like fans were pretty divided on it. The ones that didn't like it seemed to expect that they were going to make another Ablaze or Hunger instead of just taking it for what it was. QuoteGordon Rekcikssa QuoteLionsMouth The Blue Nile - Hats A word of warning: the old, un-remastered version of this album on CD (either U.S. or U.K. pressing) was mastered with pre-emphasis. Many newer CD players and CD ripping programs won't decode it properly. You'll know something is wrong if the album sounds oddly thin and bright when you play it. In this case, you'll neeby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
GAS - Narkopop New album from Wolfgang Voigt's GAS project out today, the first since 2000's Pop album. So far this is sounding great, definitely more in the vein of Zauberberg or Konigsforst than the lighter textures of Pop. It does sound a tad more accessible than those earlier albums though. Like the old stuff, this isn't pure ambient, as there are the trademark repetitivby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
The Blue Nile - Hats Discogs Page Late 80s sophisti-pop from Scotland. This was their second album released through Linn/Virgin/A&M. Yes, the same Linn that makes high-dollar audiophile equipment. Admittedly I didn't "get" this album when I first heard it about 20 years ago. It sounded slick, overproduced, and over-dramatic to my ears. Now I really like it and appreciby LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
QuoteGordon Rekcikssa Tori Amos - Welcome To Sunny Florida Epic Music Video, 2004 That sounds interesting for sure. I like her music, just not familiar with her albums after the first two or three. Never caught her live either, though I'd like to at some point.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I'm just seeing this thread now. Very good descriptions. I need to check to see if any of these live shows are on Tidal so I can check them out there when I have time.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
QuoteGordon Rekcikssa Thin Lizzy - Shades Of A Blue Orphanage original release by Decca, 1972 - this pressing by Future Days Recordings, 2015 Nice pick! I have to admit, I'm not too familiar with the early Lizzy stuff. The period from Night Life through Black Rose is amazing though. Quoterchecka Awesome stuff JB, particularly that Be William DeVaughn. You gotta also get the "Be thankful for what you got" 7" since it has part 2 of that song which is INCREDIBLY funky and soulful. I'm guessing part 2 is a track that never got radio airplay?by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quoterchecka QuoteLionsMouth That sounds pretty good. A shame it's subscription only. It's not only subscription I have it too and bought it outright when it came out from DGA. Really good psych, well worth seeking for you, but like a lot of Numero joints not cheap. My mistake. I must have confused it with the subscription only Numero stuff that I think Jaybrown posted before.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quotejaybrown Atomic Forest - Obsession 2lp . Never heard of this either, definitely sounds interesting.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Quotejaybrown Right now , listening to some psych . More Numero of course . Pices - A Lovely Sight lp . I posted a different Pices album from the Project 12 subscription . It was part of these original recording , but not chosen to go on this album . I'm thinking that had to be a tough choice because I dug that album as much as this one . Both worth having ... QuoteGordon Rekcikssa Billy Idol - Charmed Life Chrysalis, 1990 Never got into his solo stuff (love Gen X's first LP tho) but those two tracks don't sound bad. Ford Fairlane! Haven't seen that in forever.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
The Church - Hindsight 1980-1987 Great compilation of 80's era Church, just before they had a couple of big hits on their next two albums. Even if you have all the studio albums from this period, it's still worth getting due to fact that nearly half the songs are b-sides that are a PITA to track down. The sequencing and sound is well done too.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
I don't know Paul Desmond's solo work that well, but his "Take Ten" album is very good and well worth getting. Re: CTI, some amazing records on that label but a fair amount of not so hot stuff also.by LionsMouth - Crate Digging: Non Hip Hop
Midori Takada - Through the Looking Glass Discogs Page So here is an album that's getting a ton of press right now. QuoteGordon Rekcikssa Grateful Dead - Rocking The Cradle: Egypt 1978 Rhino Records, 2008 Interesting back story there. Don't remember if I said this before, but The Dead are one of those groups I wrote off as bad hippy music when I was younger and haven't really given much time to since.
