Have you ever noticed that all of the classic shit we love the most usually had some " fuck A&R's " type of message, but now all this new music that we think sucks, rarely mentions bitch ass A&R's? Did the A&R's know what was up back then? They have to still be present, but it seems like newer artist might have more freedom, and consequently, most of us think the music is not as good. Just a thought.

I think that there are many more independent artists than there were back then. So there is not as much say in what gets released today . plus an A&R 's job was to talent scout and to follow up with the promotion of their artists but lately , with youtube and digital media , it seems like the artists do most of their own promotion. Not much need for the A&R these days . With reguards to all of the garbage that's out now , and this is just my opinion , alot of people these days don't care about substance in hip hop anymore. Instead of keeping it real , they want to hear their favorite artists keep with what is trending . Thank god there are still true MCs out there ,and forums like this to spread the word about them to other real heads . I think BoomBap raised agood point here , and would like to hear more opinions on this .

It's like Chris Rock says about Arethea Franklin wasn't doing shoutouts to Motown Records on her songs.

Good topic, good question, never thought about it like that.
