Speaking of Beat Junkies...

(Our East Coasters are probably longing for this kind of Spring Break type mix right about now...)

Here's a brand new live recording of the DJ set from SHORTKUT & RHETTMATIC - LIVE AT SXSW 3.14.13

Quote
Beat Junkies @ mixcrate
This is a live recording of Rhettmatic's & Shortkut's 2x4 set at "The Junkies Spring Break" at The 2013 SXSW in Austin, Tx. The guys were basically going back and forth & simitaneously mixing & improvising on the spot, Beat Junkie Style! First Light aka Opio & Pep Love were hosting the event, plus Houseshoes & Dj Expo were spining the opening set. Along with the improvise set, a live mic cypher broke out with the legendary Souls Of Mischief. Check out the live recording as Shortkut & Rhettmatic goes across the board and play alot of different music genres yet keepin the Funk goin.....Beat Junkie Style!

*It is an 1 hour set recorded live.....only the 1st 10 songs will be listed in the track listing, no other song track listing will be provided....just enjoy the set.

Last night...

DJ Babu - Konichiwa Bitches Mix CD (Mochilla) 2013

^Guess I been on a Beat Junkies trip lately. This one is really interesting. Straight up Japanese Funk Soul and Jazz, almost no singing except for occasional small interludes and one or 2 partial songs, so you naturally wouldn't suspect it was all Japanese music at all unless you put your ear to the speaker. Probably my most favorite mix from Babs ever, quite different then all his other tapes but still filled with the just right blends, the right amount of juggling, and the right scratching that he's known for. Highly highly recommended.

peep it here...

Das Efx - Dead Serious (East West) 1992

^Classic Hip Hop in my book. The year before I graduated High School I remember this coming out and I thought it was some serious next level Hip Hop. Still to this day I love the uber heavy bass lines in this LP, I rate em right up there with the best bass lines ever.
