you know...i remember when Deja Vu came out and it was on every radio, car stereo, club, lounge, etc., in NYC (at the time). Dope joint...but not sure i'd include in my all-time greatest rap list (or any list that I was adding in/contributing in, from a collective of folks)...at least within my top 50...maybe somewhere down the line, in the 70's or 80's.

I'd really have to think abotu what i would include on post 1995 joints, but gang starr would have to be in there....maybe a Nas joint. something off the Chronic 2001 album...

peace.

Yes, I was up there during that time also and it acquired massive air play, but like yourself I think it got
that much play because the lyrical content was about New York,so it copped almost anthem status.
There were alot of playas in the game round bout 96-01...but did any of them have a joint that could
get in the stratosphere of a Top Ten or even Top twenty?? I don't really know...hmmm let a brother think a minute,
......

Junior Mafia's Get Money?....or can we go back to De La Soul's Me, myself and I?
What about the annoying but effective Master P's Bout it, bout it?
One would have to consider Busta's whoo ha got you all in check, for the fact of the tireless radio play.what about It's all about the benjamin's on the strength of everybody was on it.

Capone and Noriega's T.O.N.Y....for having one of the dopest beginning's of a rap record in some time.DJ Pooh and Kam's diss of Ice Cube on whoop,whoop....exclusive usage of the late great Malcolm Mc Laren.Goodie Mob's They don't dance no more....hmm..can Juvenile get in there, being to as he the one who started this whole changeover from conventional rap.

anyone else got anything?

After 95 96 it's a stretch minus Jay Z and Nas.
Rakim made a comeback during those years also but any one hit worthy?

...dayum, It just dawned on me...
wasn't Bone Thugs and Harmony's Crossroads in 96?
That warrants Top Ten status doesn't it?
Also what was the name of that joint with Black Moon on it...
Laflow, Laflah..some s**t like that, but it was dope.
Not Top Ten or even twenty but I just wanted to mention it.

What is the criterion for these types of lists? Like I stated up thread, I'm always conflicted. I think of the records that changed perceptions, that gave you something different stylistically or sonically...Beatmaster called them "game changers". Some records didn't necessarily change the game but they were done so well within the confines of whatever particular "hip hop moment" existed at the time that they cannot be ignored...say for instance "they want EFX" (Das EFX ) everyone was doing the rapid fire flow at that time but this was one of those records that literally caused and continues to cause hysteria in the club when it's given a spin...what do you guys think?

^^ well said...I gotta question right quick..was The real hip hop the bigger of the two hits for Das Efx or not Also under that vise does now Onyx Slam qualify along with House of Pain's Jump Around. As far as the flow of the times, did not these two hits do the same for ya? Or was it just the style at the time and none of these are Top twenty worthy?
